Sad news
« on: July 23, 2012, 20:46:56 PM »
I'm not sure if this is the right place or indeed if it's really my place to post this, but Dennis ( Joans hubby ) has passed away.

I didn't know Dennis very well at all, but having met him a few times over the last couple of years, I was touched by his stories -He was a true gentleman and a thoroughly nice chap.
Although he had battled illness for some considerable time, he was never one to moan about it, and for sure Joan and family will miss his badly.

There will no doubt be a local service, I'm sorry but I dont have any details although I'm sure that some of you on here will know him and Joan much better than me - I'm sorry in that case to post such bad news.

My thought for sure, are with Joan and family

God Bless.

He was a lovely lovely man. The first time we met him is when he was walking his dog on Calis front and told us how his family were not happy in the slughtest that they were emigrating to Calis at the ripe old age of 80. He was a great supporter of the the 3 Cs and gave dozens and dozens of donations to our shop and car boots.

Hi Mercury,

For sure he was an inspiration to us all. I just hope Joan copes with everything now, I understand that family are on their way.

OMG, hubby and I met Joan & Denis on out first ever holiday to Calis in 2009 during carnival week, walking along the prom. She was walking along the prom with the dog and she was sooooooooo stylish for a lady of her age and I couldn't help but stop her and tell her so.  Joan was extremely flattered and asked if they could join us at our table for a coffee. We spent a couple of hours in their company and they insisted we came to their place for coffee to show us around their place in the sun. Denis would come to the Oykun for us if we didn't appear, so we did. What a beautiful apartment they had in the grounds of the Kaan hotel, extremely tastefully furnished.  We had a lovely afternoon with them.
So sorry to hear about Denis's passing.

Dennis was one of life's characters and a very dear friend and neighbour.  After a long struggle with cancer is now at peace.  Nearly everyday he gave me something for the 3C's Charity Shop. He had many stories to tell and was always such a happy man, never complaining. Him and Joan moved here 8yrs ago which was an extremely brave move considering their age. They both embraced Turkey and enjoyed the lifestyle.  He wasnt averse to singing at my gate as he knewI  loved the old London songs. I will be posting details of the serivce and funeral as soon as I know the final arrangements.

Very sad news indeed I met Dennis when he moved into Kaans and we became friends he always stopped at my apartment for a chat as he walked his dog and I always teased him about the quizzes at kaans because he always managed to sit with the winning team.
We got chatting one night about where our families came from most of mine from Middlesbrough and his from Uttoxeter  then I said my grandfather came from there it turned out that he knew him and his family what a small world we live in
My wife and I will miss him greatly

Lovely man with some wonderful stories he could always recall. He loved life in Calis and though he was almost 90 he certainly didnt look it or sound it. Such a sense of humour and yes he will be sadly missed especially by Joan . The funeral is this Friday probabaly at the Urnur where the church services are held but no time has been set yet . Joan has requested no flowers but donations for Animal Aid will be welcomed as Dennis so loved all animals.....except the little blighter that bit him when he was out walking his own dog .Rest in peace Dennis you have earned it . Joan has said anyone who wishes to pay their respects can attend the funeral and she will ring and let me know as soon as a time has been set.

I never met him or joan, but, reading all this about him wish I had! Some people touch you in a way
you never imagined when you meet them, others were obviously so special they are abloe to do it second hand --Dennis was very obviously one of those!

My condolences to Joan.

There will be a service for Dennis at 1pm on Friday 27th at the back of the Kaan Hotel before he is laid to rest at the Calis Cemetary (over the upside down bridge).  Joan has requested no flowers but if anyone would like to make a donation, all proceeds will go to Animal Aid, as Dennis loved animals.
