Listening to Radio on the Internet
« on: July 26, 2012, 07:47:04 AM »
I wonder how many people listen to radio over the Internet ? I use an app on the Ipad to listen to my local radio station (Radio Merseyside) quite often. I noticed that recently I have not been able to receive the web stream, I get just a pre recorded message telling me that it was either a temporary technical fault or was due to contractual reasons.

I emailed the station and was told that the web stream has been suspended until the end of the para olympics in September because they are not allowed to broadcast any Olympic content outside of the UK.

Luckily, the VPN gets you around the problem.

Just received this response  from the BBC :

Hello

We're really sorry you can't hear Radio Merseyside live on the iPlayer
at the moment if you live outside the UK.

Although the BBC has rights to broadcast coverage of the Olympics and
Paralympics, those rights only cover the UK.

So we, and all other BBC radio stations would be in breach of contract
if we broadcast to listeners abroad. It's going to be like that from now
until September 12th when the Paralympics end.

If you listen on the iPlayer in this country you will still be able to
hear us.

Many Thanks
BBC Merseyside
