What an amazing post Guy - such inner strength you must have found to even begin it, let alone write what you did. I know Alan very well and the only thing I want to say at this stage is that he is probably the last person I have met that I would give up hope on - I've seen with my own eyes - the grit and determination of the man in the face of adversity and serious ill health.

Keep the faith, there's a few thousand on here doing the same.

I too have never met Alan but from the messages here wish I had.

I too have never had the pleasure of meeting Alan and only wish that I had and whose to say that I won't.  My thoughts are with you all.  I lost my mum a few months ago and found the following verse so helpful - I tend to read it when I just need that extra bit of help. I am not overly religious and hope you do not mind me sharing it:

When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you 'till it seems as though you could not hold on a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn

Guy,

I've only met Alan the one time - a couple of years back - but since then we have always kept in touch via email, facebook or this forum. I was only speaking with him last Friday and arranging to meet up for a beer and a footy game when we go out in Sept. As always I asked him how he was doing and he said he felt great and was ready to tackle the pool cleaning (whilst I was going to work!).

You are his real family but he's also part of the CBF family as well and we are all praying for him in our own way.

Keep hoping and keep being strong for him. Not that you need me to tell you that.

Stoop
