While we all theorise on what happened and what should have happened, I think it's well worth considering some of the points made by Inspector Gadget, a serving Police Officer, in his latest blog.

"Merton Council will conduct the review, done after the death of a child where abuse or neglect is known or suspected."

Without wishing to prejudge the outcome of the review, if it turns out that the agencies have failed yet again and I hear just one of the people responsible say that they will learn lessons from this tragic affair, I will scream. :(

It does appear that certain of the so-called "Welfare Services" have been involved with this "family" for some time. Makes one wonder just what the Welfare Services get paid for, because they definitely don't seem to have a very good record of saving vulnerable children, that's for Goddamn sure !!   >:( >:(

I didn't say it was tink. In fact I would agree with you that it isn't and easy job.

I'm happy to wait to see what comes out of the review before commenting further.

An outcry in waiting I am sure. However, local authorities are a tiny part of these problems. What dark corners of society have been allowed to develop where children aren't loved and totally safe at their own grandparent's house? To me, you can blame the local authority all you like but the responsibility of grannies, mums etc when entering new relationships should start with "are my kids/grandkids at risk from this man"...or indeed, woman.

Well put Scunner my thoughts exactly .
It's always easy to blame social workers. I often work closely with social services and also my niece is a social worker so I hear first hand, it is unbelieve the work load that is put on their shoulders. :(
