Looks as though prices will continue to be higher than in the past.  The tour operators are trying to make up for previous losses
The newly announced tax hikes affecting alcohol and tobacco will also have a detrimental effect on tourism.  The current situation
with the euro should have prompted the Turkish Government to advertise Turkey and cash in on tourism, not to increase taxes which will  no   doubt affect tourism not to mention small bars and businesses.  Although Turkey is a secular country some people look on it as one of the Muslim countries where they could encounter problems, even though we who visit and live here know differently.  Many expats have already decided to return to the UK and I am sure more will follow.

Your right to point out those government led issues Ray, but on the other hand for tourists their money is going further, as the exchange rate of £:TL improves, so tourists have bit more cash in the bin to spend on (the soon to be more expensive) Efes :o

cant see your logic there Peter, if petrol prices go up along with items, then as we all know shops increase their prices, i.e food, clothes, etc so cant see a better lira exchange rate helping that much.

I think he means that a holiday maker will be getting maybe 20% more TL to the GBP/Euro than last year - so may not notice a 20% hike in prices.

There is no guarantee that the exchange rate will keep going up though. It could quite easily go the other way and then with the price hikes some people may find it expensive.I feel for the local turkish people who struggle has it is.

We have been put off going back by the prices of the flights to, can remember getting them quite cheap, think lots of people are the same, I feel sorry for the owners as well as others, probably lots of properties sitting empty for longer periods, but looking at the rain here today i would be glad to jump on a plane,

Flight booking for Turkey has become an art, gone are the days of last min booking, the airlines are now aware of all the booking trends and are pricing accordingly. Early booking is the best at the moment and the same next year it would seem. There is still no pattern. When you have the time and the will check on a very regular basis. Or have we just been lucky. Return to UK Mid Oct this year booked 17th October 2011 85 pounds, with Monarch. Booked for May 2013 from UK with EJ 45 pounds, booked early September 2012. helps if you are able to be flexible. A four hour flight too. It can be done!

There are cheap flights out there but you have to be able to be flexible. Something those who work find hard.

I look forward to the day we can go midweek on a one way flight and come back when we see a cheap return.

That's assuming I can still afford my Effes  :)
