Well Comrade Lance, we in the Politburo know the answer to these things, shimples!  :) Or at least this is
the common reason! Although in the EU and other areas Cartels are illegal they are positively encouraged in a lot
of the emerging World and frequently in place to ensure that people use the national airline. Not only do you often
find the price is high, (and if you offer lower prices you will suddenly find you can no longer fly to the main Airports, (why EasyJet only fly to Sabiha Gocken Airport in Istanbul?) or even that you are told you cant have landing rights next year) Good examples of this is Saudi Arabia, the price is high such that Saudia Airlines will always be the cheapest, few international Airlines are allowed to fly there, and if they are often not to Riyadh  the capital. In fact even BA had to shift there flights to Dammam for a while. (I suspect that threatening Saudia with Gatwick did the trick and got them back to Riyadh  :) )

In the case of summer flights to Turkey from Ukl a) it takes a lot more fuel, and b) they can easily fill flights equals higher prices but also it could be excessive landing fees at Turkish Airports?? You only have to look at the prices at Dalaman Airport to see how that would work!

Spain understands the desperate importance of its tourist income, especially now, whereas Turkey as a nation is not so reliant on Tourism? In fact if all Coastal Airports were closed to International traffic, 70% of Turks probably wouldnt care too much!

Anyway as my Grandson would say "whatever, massive init?"
