Apart from the charter companies that fly in and out of Dalaman during the tourist season, most European cities are served via Istanbul.

If you were to choose somewhere like Amsterdam or one of the German cities you could fly scheduled to there and a charter from there to Dalaman with all the Dutch or German holidaymakers  :)

Try the train.  We stopped at Paris, Munich, Vienna, Budapest, Bucharest and Istanbul with a flight to Dalaman for a well earned rest.  We got the idea from a post on here a few years ago.  It was a great holiday.

How many days travel was that from start to Istanbul? That really does sound like a plan  :)

I'm flying back to the UK soon and have opted for a stopover in Amsterdam, in order to fly into Bham the following day. The flights to Istanbul (Sabiha Gokcen), Transvania to Amsterdam and the FlyBe into Bham worked out no more than a connecting flight from Ataturk. The hotel was really resonable with free airport transfers. I'm hoping it will make for a more interesting and stress free trip  8)

Sounds like a great trip to us, Keith take a look at  www.seat61.com/turkey.htm  which gives details of the rail route, 3 nights for the 2000 mile journey. Something to think about, it shows train times, fares and how to buy tickets.

Yes, we thought it was amazing too, so much information and a few routes to choose from, plus you can break the journey with stop-overs.
