just a quick update re: alan (number2)
« on: February 18, 2013, 16:39:53 PM »
Hi its guy, alans son (number 2) just wanted to update you and also thank everyone, i know i don’t post very often but its been a hectic few months sinse dad died, and I’ve got a lot of you on facebook now too, ive really loved meeting and talking to you all or even just reading your posts, its a great community here and im pleased to say ive made some great friends through the forum.

Anyway my dads villa sold this week, and id really like to thank mete from golden moon estate agents, and ozlen the solicitor from opposite yakamos, when we came to sell the villa as im sure you can all imagine we were daunted, we had read horror stories about estate agents, solicitors, and we were really worried, but thanks to my dads and our good friend john we were recommended both mete and ozlen, and what honest and trustworthy people both turned out to be, for as stressful as the last 6 months have been both have kept up upto date at all times, emailing us, letting us know what was going on, i cant thank them enough but highly recommend both for anyone who is ever (and i hope none of you ever are) in the same boat we found ourselves in, both have been compassionate, helpful, and patient, ozlen for example knew we couldn’t pay upfront and it wasn’t a problem she’s waited 6 months and both her and mete I will use as examples next time anyone ever says to me you cant trust Turkish people, I believe there are good and bad in every country, and im glad to say we found 2 of the best.

Anyway i’d also like to thank scunner, I didn’t like to put on him but through the last few weeks when we knew we had a sale we were worried about how things would work, what would happen etc and scunner has been fantastic, a real credit to the forum, and a pleasure to talk to. His chats have been really informative and its been good keeping in touch with someone who like a lot of you thought the world of my dad.

To everyone else, i hate trying to remember names because there are so many and if i leave anyone off id feel awful, but john, lynne and dave, highlander, tinks, kayakebab, laffa, diver baz, lady diver, (im trying to remember all the people who have helped us or my dad used to spend hours telling me stories about lol) barmaid from hell, and everyone else I just want to again thankyou for your support last year and for being such good friends to my dad, he really did think the world about the lot of you, like I said sometimes I couldn’t get my own goings on out in the open because once he got onto you that was it for an hour haha

As for me and my brothers were doing ok, still sad at times but thinking of all the good times, me and mitch are off for a week in las vegas to see celine dion next week (a guilty pleasure hence the username lol) and mitch and grant are off travelling for a couple of months after that, but we will be over in turkey at the end of april beginning of may and i look forward to seeing a lot of you then.  Once again thankyou everyone.

All the best guy x

Putting your minds at rest was the least I could do Guy - selling a property abroad is always stressful and it's such a quick process in Turkey sometimes it can actually make it more worrying!

As I said to you on messenger - when I asked you who was selling it and looking after your interests out there I was almost waiting for your reply looking through my fingers not wanting to see the answer. When you said Mete and Ozlen I remember thinking "well he's home and dry there then". Two great people and two friends I've known and trusted for a very long time.

Enjoy Vegas, Alan will be looking down shaking his head in disbelief  ;)

This is so lovely to read, I've got a lump in my throat as I did with your earlier posts when your dear dad died. I never met him but he must have been a wonderful man to have brought up such marvellous, caring and well mannered sons, he would be so proud of you. Often the best deeds in life are the unspoken ones, and you found that in Keith who quietly guided you when you needed it, as it must have been very daunting. Everyone hopefully now knows who to contact to help sell and provide legal advice in similar or tragic circumstances. Well done all. Have a marvellous trip you've earned it!

I can only echo Lotty's post - indeed he would be proud of both his family and his friends on here.

thankyou everyone, your right scunner, it is so worrying that its so fast, but i dont think i could have picked 2 better people to sell the villa and deal with the legal side of things, perfect combination, I can only say to the people on the forum that should you ever need an estate agent or a solicitor then they cant come highly recommended enough, we had to make ozlen our power of attorney, im 31 which i know seems old when your 16 but ive never had to go through anything like this, our heads were spinning, what if she takes the money, would we have a legal leg to stand on having gave her full control of everything, i dont mind telling you there were a few sleepless nights, same as you hear estate agents who will rent your villa out while your not there, we were all so worried, but its just been such plain sailing and the honesty from all parties has been just staggering. I know ozlen had helped our friend with some legal issues with neighbours, but trusting someone with thousands of pounds is something thats bound to give you cause for concern, and i just wanted to be a voice of positivity, you read on facebook or on here about people that have been taken advantage of etc and it makes you worry. So i wanted to tell you about our experience and hope to some of you it may be useful advice in the future, and it helps to have an estate agent and a solicitor who speak fluent english and are so approachable, i mean were trying to STILL sort my dads endowment out in the uk, and for every letter and phonecall we get charged, we didnt have that in turkey, we could ring or email anytime and were always treated like VIPs

thankyou all for your kind replies, I like to think my dad would be proud of the way weve all handled things this last few months, and I like to think he would have a big smile on his face to know hes not only touched so many people who had never met him like lotty, but also that out of even the worst of circumstances we have met amazing people, i class scunner and highlander as good friends now, knowing that If i need to talk people are always there, i miss my dad, id give all the money back to have him here, but thats not possible, but i like to think the money will help its set us up for life, we can put deposits down on our own houses, start our own lives, but as important as the money is i think the best inheritance that weve been given is to inherit my dads closest friends as our own, so many people that knew him and can tell us stories like how he always had his city towel over the balcony!! etc its as if part of him is still here, and I know that the friends we've made still feel a connection to dad through us, and i think more than anything my dad would have loved that, the uk was where he was born, but calis was his home, and he loved nothing better than to introduce us to his friends and in a way he still continues to do that.

guy x
