ooooooooh, lots of us are trying very hard to learn the language - the point being that tannoy messages are difficult to understand even when delivered in your mother tongue.

3 years at night school

But - clearly I must try harder

Ps My hearing is not as good as it used to be so the clarity of the speaker system along with a very friendly dog on site who howls and howls when the lady is on does make this a very  challenging experience that we never covered in year 1,2 or 3  ;)

We are quick to say that people coming to the UK should speak English, well, the same applies to foreigners
living in Turkey - learn the language !

Very true - but I have often asked our Turkish neighbours what the message is - and they have no idea.

Me too.  I have asked Turkish friends when they are at our place and am disappointed when they tell me they cannot make out what is being said..

I was OK last June when she said:

You may have noticed the outer layer of the Earth, the lithosphere, which is cool enough to behave as a more or less rigid shell has just moved?

Occasionally the hot asthenosphere of the Earth finds a weak place in the lithosphere to rise buoyantly as a plume, or hotspot. Don't be alarmed...........

It was the lithosphere that threw me - I missed the week we covered that but we did do "can I have 2 return tickets to Taxim Square" the following week  :D

Our neighbours' dog always howls when it's the lady announcer speaking...just another distraction to make it difficult to catch even the odd word!

So the answer is nobody knows what the hell is being said so i'll just carry on having a bucket of water on standby and torches and candles at the ready for whatever is being said and if the earth starts moving when i'm not expecting it then i'll run outside.
Sorted.

  ;)

Its all a question of timing and if the earth moves more than i would be expecting under any circumstances i will still run outside no matter.

Alan.
