Well, spoke to my husband this evening and his take on it is.. The reason flights are more expensive from Scotland is "They have you by the short and curlys"   I  think Confucius  said that too.

He's not wrong Jacqui.    Just the same as when you need to book school holidays.

In October I flew from East Midlands to Edinburgh and then Dalaman that was the cheapest way.

It pays to book early I have flights from Stanstead for April £570 for three people and flights from Birmingham changing in Istanbul August just under £800 all in school holidays

Thomas Cook have flights on Monday 8 April from Manchester to Dalaman for £82.49

Problem solved people - we'll take the train to Manchester. Only seven and a half hours and a bargain at £ 232 - each

When my brother's children were young, he always booked his flights out of Manchester (travelled down form Invergordon) .  Stayed a couple of nights with us at the beginning and end of their holiday, we took them to the airport and what they saved went a long way towards their spends.
