When we long term rented, but were only there about 3-4months each year, we had the phone line in our landlords name. Just like England, you pay for the line rental and calls on top. If they're not there then they will just pay the line rental as we did.

Broadband  varies but for both between 70 and 80 tl per month, its a lot jf you are only here 4 weeks per year.

Actually as in UK you pay line rental and additionally you pay for whatever package of ADSL you want. It really depends how much want the service if you're only there for a short while.

It is possible to suspend the ADSL service for a few months - I do not know how many. My sister took out the telephone line and ADSL for me ( before I got residency) and it is still in her name although I pay the bills; she has to make any changes to the account and is liable for payment (good job she trusts me - this is important). Last year I was away for 4 months and we suspended the service for 3 months. So, it is possible to suspend the service but I don't know how you go about it.
One important point , which I have mentioned before, is that LIMITSIZ does not do what it says on the tin. One version of LIMITSIZ gives you a maximum download limit of 50Gb, after which your download speed drops right off.  The true UNLIMITED version of LIMITSIZ (which gives you unlimited downloads) costs 93 TL per month. Believe me , I found this out the hard way and spent weeks talking to the TTNET English helpline about why my speed kept dropping before I got through to someone who actually knew what was going on.

Can you tell me what the package is called, I've been into the shop several times and asked if I can upgrade my service, a blank look is normally the answer

You need to go to the Blue building near the cinima.

I got telephone line and 8 meg internet.

I did not take the free router and so I did not have to sign for  two year contract.
I normally recieve 3.5 meg download which apparently is the norm where I live . It costs aroung 80 tl for the internet and another 10 for the line rental.
I got my handset and router from our computer man plus the internal wireing for around 50 tl. Had no problems for around 11 months but for the last couple of weeks have had it dropping off a few times every day.

Solve this by dialing 121 and then number 6 about 10 times and it comes back on.

I have to say, getting a fixed line changed our life. Each of us can now watch our own programs every night. If you get a decent VPN service then the world is your oyster as far as what you can watch.
