Getting well off topic now - sorry.
Regarding tourism in Çalış and its reliance to comments on Tripadvisor - actually it has a huge input into where people go.
The area needs new visitors each year not just those who already love the place.

The whole population doesn't rely on Trip Advisor Jim. Even the best restaurants in the world get bad reviews but it doesn't stop people going  ;)

Russ - I do as you do but having 4 children almost all in their 30`s - it does surprise me that they refer to Facebook / Trip advisor and the like before they even go for a day out to Southport    ;)

So the danger is we may have no young people coming through to buy our properties in the future ???

Trip advisor is a major web resource used by millions to check out reviews on hotels, resorts, restaurants etc, so it does carry a lot of clout for people. Like Sandgrounder, I like to make up my own mind, but will always check with T.A first, even booking a place here in the UK. I agree with Jacqui, that lots of people will be put off coming to Calis Beach with the reviews on TA but it's their loss. If I was wanting to try a new place for a holiday, I'd read the holiday comapanies reviews, even though I might not have booked with them, and like CBF, I'd join a related forum and ask all the relevant questions there too as well as TA.
  :)

I wouldn't advise anybody to come to Southport Ian, it has slowly eroded into nothingness! It's not the town I grew up in and is now sadly just another one of Gods waiting rooms lol.

Russ - I have a place in Lytham St Anne's and Southport always seems very fast paced by comparison :D

Just two years Des? I've been saying it for 10.

But the carnival and the litter are separate issues.

Çalış is governed by Fethiye Belediye, we do not have our own mayor, like Olu Deniz do, well for now until they too will be governed by Fethiye.

I didn't know that so sorry if I misled anyone in my earlier post. Maybe the improvements are starting in the centre and spreading out and will soon incorporate Çaliş - after all the new prom to Çaliş in all its glory is will be complete soon.

Sort of back on the topic of the carnival all the new plans as outlined in full on page 2 of this topic by Pi55y look pretty great to me and I am sure will be a huge success. It makes sense to me that the effort put in by all the volunteers is spent on raising funds for children and while the carnival itself is and was a lovely idea to need to raise 30,000TL each year from sponsorship and events to pay for the event and its associated expenses is a lot money that could go directly to all the excellent causes supported.
