They are to play it according to the latest news and they should.

The thing I’ve noticed is some who agreed with or were less affected by Margaret Thatcher’s policies are surprised at the intensity of the emotions of those who were greatly affected by them.

If you lived through these times it was obvious there were communities devastated by these actions and they are entitled to feel how they feel.

Also how the venom seems to be coming from those who supported her towards those who have different opinions to them. The media is full of outrage at the disrespect.

You cant tell people what to think and feel.

Yes, they have been waiting for this celebration.  The mourners will celebrate her life and her death will be celebrated at parties throughout the night.

Let’s not rewrite history, it happened.

To enlarge on SP's comment. Head of Radio 1 has said it won't play the track "in full". The damned thing is only 51 seconds long in total. As someone said many posts ago - BBC fudge. Shame on them.

Part of track to be played in background during the news.
I believe the track is 53 seconds long and BBC playing part of it !

Not playing the whole 50+ seconds is far more effective - look at the extra publicity knocking 20 seconds or whatever off has caused. Once again the BBC takes a controversial story and makes it a bigger controversial story.

Just heard Radio 1 controller explaining what will happen on Sunday.
When it gets to the DingDong part of the chart, the DJ will hand over to a news journalist.
S/he will explain that there has been a campaign to promote the song and that there are different view points about the lady in question. And more.
Somewhere in this there will be a 3 or 4 second clip of the song.

When asked if a similar pro Thatcher campaign takes a different song into next week's chart, what be the BBC response ...... he did not have an answer.

I can't help but think that "we" the population, are to blame for it not being played, people are so easily offended, upset and ready to complain at the slightest thing that nobody dare do anything to offend. I'm disappointed that its not being played. The chart has always been the people's choice of music, remember when laurel and hardy were number one? ( I bought that single!!) if that is the people's choice then that is what should be played. I don't like Beyonce but if someone chooses to spend 69p downloading a track of hers to get it to number one, then so be it. Viva democracy!

Same BBC that didn't want the fuss to expose one of their own as a paedophile, no backbone and we were assured that the Savile incident would result in a spine being put in - but same cowering jellyfish again. If they stopped making the news and started reporting it...

Although I am disappointed with the BBC for this, specifically the Radio 1 Controller, I have some empathy with what Scunner said about the propaganda outcome. Some people have derided or deviled the street parties and the buying of this track as pointless or sad. But I think these acts have already made my life a little better. When I turn on my TV or radio I haven't had listen to gushing drivel from pompous talking heads telling me that "The whole nation is in mourning" (no it damned well isn't) or "Everyone is saddened by this tragic news" (no they damned well aren't) and similar claptrap. Of course there is still claptrap about the protest being from a tiny or mindless or sad minority (how people enjoying their jolly parties in the street can be termed "sad" is beyond me) but at least it is has shifted the ground of discussion from the anodyne "she was a divisive force" which makes her sound like Marmite (some like, some don't, it is a matter of taste) to a recognition that many people loath her to the core and they don't have short memories and won't be sushed by feeble appeals to respect or good taste.
