I agree with that, but 1) People living near a beach should pay more to ensure it is well kept (the beach being the reason they bought there - not many people from outside Turkey want a place two hours inland) and 2) The money the belediye make from their sunbeds should be reinvested into looking after the thing the sunbeds are on - why would you not do that?

Just my opinion.

Yes but that is reflected by the going rate for the population as a whole, which is also reflected in the general cost of living which to us Brits is cheap.   :)

I think you just answered your own question. It's all relevant. Council tax is less over there because costs are less. That doesn't mean people should expect an inferior level of service does it?

we do use the beach at Calis a lot and have never thought it was too bad... However last week we went down for a day (before the men started the clear up)and I have to say this year it looked awful, litter loads of it, loads of fag ends which I have never noticed before and dog poo which we have definetely never noticed before....I had planned a dip in the sea to help the healng of a problem I have had with my stomach, however seeing all that debris totally put me off going in the sea I was rather afraid I may catch something  :( However what a difference on the day the clean up began those guys worked really hard some of the rocks they were picking up were not small and it looked hugely improved after but they do need to keep it up....

Some adults in the UK need to be taught not to drop their rubbish AND chewing gum and cigarette ends are a menace on our streets.

Its not always holiday makers that leave the mess.  Lots of locals especially up the Sat beach end go late night fishing, meet up and leave bags full of rubbish, cigarette ends, bottles etc behind them.  Perhaps if a system of fines were introduced it might improve things?

Trouble is, you cannot fine people with no money,I have seen these poor people dining on the beach at night,it is probably the only respite they get from the heat of the day but is no excuse for their littering .
