Does this picture look like a Terrorist to you??
« on: April 26, 2013, 20:10:52 PM »

You could not make this up.

My Daughter her husband and my Granddaughter who will be three in June, are on their way to Calis Beach. At the Airport today in Edinburgh the security insisted my Granddaughter go through by herself. The guy stood telling her to come over to him, she got very scared and did not want to go to him. My daughter asked could she bring her through and was told "no". Apparently it took a long time and some tears before my Granddaughter went through. My Daughter followed behind her and the alarm when off, so my Daughter was body searched.

Is it not time these security guys used their brains. Do the Security really think my Granddaughter is carrying a bomb. My Daughter tries to tell her not to go to strange men, but the Security are encouraging it.

I enclose a picture taken in the airport.... Does she really look like a criminal.

That's a very good point Jacqui.

Ours were quite the opposite at that sort of age. I remember they used to hope to make the beep go off, and one being searched. She shouted across "mum, I got a massage" :o

But on a serious note, surely they could have let your daughter go with her and if need be search the two of them.

This happened to a friend of mine and her daughter at a similar age who proceeded to have a total hissy fit and security were then too scared to touch her    :)

Why didn't the daughter go first and call the granddaughter after then?

That is what I thought, this was happening at Gatwick the other week, the mother was going through first.  And yes I do think that children should be scanned, terrorist have no conscience.

Fair point. But equally why didn't the security person suggest that.

Yes and at security we generally do what we are told. If he requested the child go through first then who is going to argue...

It's probably more than their job's worth to make sensible suggestions.

I've got an SIA (Security Industry Authority) licence and know for a fact that 99% of security personnel working at airports, ports etc only hold the most basic licence and aren't paid to make decisions. They stick to whatever it says in their Operations Manual and then can't go wrong.

i really do think the world has gone mad, but what does a terrorist look like now days?

we all have visions in our minds and thats how extremist what us to think, so they can brain wash the next recruit

i total agree with you Jacque that when the innocent gets treated like this  it hurts especially when its our own, but it would hurt even more if that aeroplane let some terrorist on board  who detonated a devise

hopefully your granddaughter has got over the shock and will be  enjoying her holiday soon

Me as a mother and a parent! I would have brought the security to a standstill and I bet every mother/parent in the queue would of followed suit. It is obvious that it is a training issue, something that should be rolled out across the board.
