Dalaman Airport prices on the up !
« on: May 20, 2013, 10:01:49 AM »
A necessary evil of passing through Dalaman Airport is the purchase of a small bottle of water.

A little game I play to ease the pain of paying 4 TL for what costs ½ TL in the shops is to collect all the little 10 Kurus coins I can during my stay and then pay for the bottle with a large handful of coins.

Childish I know – but watching the sales assistant spending a couple of minutes counting the coins just makes me feel a little better.

I was a bit miffed to find out last week that the price has now gone up to 4.5TL and I didn’t have enough coins to pay for my bottle – I was forced to pay with paper money and ended up bringing back my pocketful of coins back to England to put in the charity box.

Next time I will hand over a pile of coins I know to be 10 kurus missing and watch the assistant count it several times and see if she asks for the missing 10 ! .................

Like I say ........ childish ........

Just remember though, it's not those poor little buggers that set the prices. They have to put up with the abuse too.

I really think that your ire should be directed at whoever determines the rental charges on the concessions not the poor beggers that work there. They always get the flak !

I see it as more of a peaceful, non violent protest delivered with good humour rather than abuse and ire ....................

But perhaps delivered to the wrong person?

Why is paying with money delivering something unsavoury to the wrong person?

It's not at all. I meant that it was a peaceful protest but delivered to the the wrong person, i.e. the sales assistant, rather than the person responsible for the pricing...

what I normally do now is drink my bottle of water before security and keep the empty bottle then I put a bit of tap water in just enough to see me through until I can buy a bottle on the plane, which even though expensive (we have found Easyjet to be a bit more sensibly priced!) I used to do the same as you Phil and count out all my loose change but then I begrudged handing that over in the end, not because I was being a tight a**e but the principal of a 50 kourus bottle being sold at a stupid price...
I realise my method would not be suitable if you had children with you or the intense heat of August but I have gained a little satisfaction the last few years by not purchasing any water at Dalaman  :)
apologies for going off topic but this should be my 2500th post yah :D
