I don't think there is any argument that Turkey is no longer the VFM holiday it was even just a few short years back. I have seen 2 different newspaper reports recently showing the cost of a basket of products popular with holidaymakers, in both examples Turkey was second highest with Spain & Portugal being nearly 50% cheaper. If you factor in the cost of flights comparable to some of the other destinations then I feel Turkey is indeed is in real danger of pricing itself out of the game.

Twice last week I spent several hours in the afternoon on the promenade and also yesterday between 4 & 6pm. and I can tell you that it was deserted, in fact we both said that we have seen it looking busier during the winter, yesterday very few on the beach and virtually every restaurant was empty. I've said it before, the alarm bells are ringing, but unfortunately, nobody seems to be listening.

forgot to mention the  near empty 15 sunglasses and watches shops all within a radius of 30 metres  .... and  not forgetting the 25 near empty  clothes shops in the same radius ...... 12 trip agents... 6 tattooists...   8 hairdressers....plus the multitude of bars/ night clubs, and restaurants and snack bars.... too many to count  ..... all chasing fewer customers... its all going to end in tears for many

And that is the situation regarding people who would have booked long before the 'troubles' in the major cities. Nobody needs to tell me how it shouldn't affect places like Fethiye. But sadly, it will.

Spot on Keith, the visitor numbers fall here year on year but rather than try and identify the root cause, a blame culture sets in, so far we've had everything from Chinese Flu to the Earthquake, next year no doubt it will be the roads.

I wonder if it is isolated to the Fethiye area or if the likes of Marmaris, Altinkum and Bodrum are all suffering as well.
From figures published on the Fethiye Times site for Mugla:-

British visitors for the first six months of 2012 are 60,000 down on last year.
The actual figures for British tourists in the first six months of the year are: 2010 – 594k; 2011 – 522k; 2012 – 462.5k.

That is a fair drop.
