My sister and hub have just come back from our place and although the airport was jammed they commented on how quiet Calis was . Their photos show the beach empty as far as the eye can see on most afternoons- they go to the Mutlu end! However its not unusual that the airport is busy and calis isnt- I bet Marmaris is packed!

I agree, I think everyone must be turning left! When we arrived in May Dalaman was heaving. No evidence of many visitors in Hisaronu and Olu Deniz beach was occupied by about 50 people - in total! Maybe its picked up a bit now, I do hope so for everyone!

An awful lot of people I have spoken to here in Sheffield are going to Turkey this year. An awful lot of them are going to Marmaris it seems too.

I should imagine there were plenty of Marmaris special offer deals appearing online and people have gone for the value over any other consideration.

I have never been to Marmaris but when I was last in Fethiye (May this year) and mentioned to anyone that cared to listen that I had booked to go to Marmaris this Sept to check the area out, I didn't get ONE positive response. That was from Turks and Brits. I spent some time chatting to a variety of people on our 12 Island Tour boat about Marmaris including a honeymooning couple from Rhodes who had booked out of Marmaris early and changed to Fethiye as they had disliked it so much.

My eldest son and his girlfriend holidayed in Icmeler earlier this year and adored it but spent less than half a day in Marmaris decribing it as 'souless and felt unsafe'.

Needless to say, I have changed my booking. Fortunately it was in a friend's villa and I hadn't booked flights. But anyway Calis is where we'll be this September (always the same apartments too...we are boring aren't we) and we intend to hire a car from Pegasus and do lots of exploring!

I hope it's not too long before we can call somewhere in Fethiye our home  8)

After reading about how quiet Calis was in May this year, we were surprised how many people were about in the evenings along the front.  Most of the popular restaurants were heaving, and there were very few waiters waiting to catch us as we walked by.  We stayed in the Golden Moon apartments, and as well as walking down to the front we ate at the local places, including café Pazar and the new Zayra café where the pizzas are excellent, and the people so pleasant.  We also had an excellent roast beef Sunday lunch at the café Inns, also busy all day! The airport was very busy and there were very few spaces on our flights from Luton to Dalaman.  (apologies if my spelling of the places is incorrect).

we are just back from Calis from nearly three weeks of total bliss and chill out  and found the first week out & about along the front was quiet But the last 2 weeks were a lot lot busier , yes  2 or 3 places in the evenings were almost empty due to big gaps  and Small portions on the plates , and higher prices,  Georges in particular, heard many comments about that , Enya next door was almost empty why i dont know ,  The loss of 2 brill  staff  in the Mangol and increase of their  prices last weekend and bad service eg the puffy bread came and soon as you started it the main meal arrived , waiters could not bone fish properly , Alis  well who would like a waiter in a string vest  :-[, but  most the others were we felt doing quite well
With regard to numbers being down in hotels / bars and along the prom ect  , Our Hotel Oykun  was fully booked  since 7 june [ 85 rooms] and in fact Thompsons  50  Room allocation  for whole of June next year  is already 90 % booked,  RE The Oykuns direct booking we have just today [ 2 days after leaving ]  managed to get a room for 3 weeks next June one of the few that they have free They must be doing something right as its mainly  clients returning year after year, although some this year used to go to the Mutlu regular but due to staff changes came to the Oykun .
One last thing it was with great pleasure to meet Hghlander,[  who did a brill belly flop into the pool one day]  and his dear wife who were staying at the Oykun , what lovely couple they are

Blueclad are you saying George's was quiet because of high prices or busy, can't quite understand.
Might be just me reading it wrong
