New Mosque in Calis
« on: July 01, 2013, 12:50:20 PM »
In the Land of Lights it shows plans for a new Mosque and Alevi assembly hall to be built side by side in Foca, it will incorporate a morgue, undertakers offices, soup kitchen, sacrificial area and courtyard.
I spoke to a gentleman involved in the project this morning, there are two sites being considered, across from the cemetery over the old upside down bridge, there is a piece of land being used as a car park and children's play area at the moment this is the preferred option. The other option is near the Pelin hotel.

I've always thought it odd that there is no prominent Mosque in Calis, I love the call to prayer!

Well as the massive new mosque everywhere in Turkey was being funded by the current Government and
their chances of re-election are about as high as meeting Elvis in the Nil Bar I wouldnt bank
on it ever happenning  :)  :)

It is nice, unless it is next door to you. I lived next to a mosque for a year and the Mullah prided himself
on being heard in Mecca -- and in the summer -- I really didnt want a 4 am alarm call  :)

John you had better go and say Hi to Elvis, unless someone forms a credible opposition soon. The mosque will definitely be built, funding has been approved and building work will start very soon. Not my words a good friend who is involved in the project.

We walked back from Kabak to Faralya last week and arrived just in time for the 1.15pm call.
A tiny mosque in an idyllic location - beautiful   :)  :)  :)

absolutely right quackers. I  remember being in Bodrum some years ago, and an English woman saying, 'and I won't miss that row either' !!
First time I heard it was in Israel, love it.

Cannot understand people who visit Muslim countries such as Turkey and complain about the sound of the call to prayer from the mosque.  As quackers said, it's the sound of Turkey.

Maybe these people also complain about church bells ringing over here too!  :(

Mark, can you be slightly more specific regarding the position of the land for the proposed mosque near the old upside-down bridge.  Is it over the bridge and straight on, or just over the bridge? Thanks   :)
