Fethiyespor are officially my second team now. I didn't get a "pass" to see them play last August (the abandoned crowd trouble one), but will have a go again this year (Some luck required with fixtures - I need a home game on weekend of 16th-17th August).

I was astonished and delighted when I heard they beat Fenerbahce away and managed to stream the first half of the Eskisehirspor match (the one that was played over two days).

Anyway, I hope they can keep this form going - that new coach certainly seems to be having an effect.

P.S. Want to know why Trabzonspor play in claret and blue?

Former Villa secretary Steve Stride's role as a UEFA delegate took him back to Turkey - and he discovered that we were the inspiration behind Trabzonspor's claret-and-blue kit.

During the official lunch ahead of the Trabzonspor v Apollon Limassol Europa League match, the host club's president gave Steve a special mention.

Ibrahim Haciosmanoglu pointed out that when his club were formed in 1967 they were so short of money they had no kit.

They contacted a number of clubs in Europe and Villa were the only ones to respond, sending a full set.

"I have seen theories on why Trabzonspor wear claret and blue but I'd near heard this, even when we played them in the UEFA Cup in 1994" said Steve.

"But the president assured me it's a fact."

The club also presented Steve with a shirt.

The number, by the way, is associated with the city of Trabzon. All cars registered there have the prefix 61.

Despite the addition of 2 new central defenders and keeping only their 2nd clean sheet of the season last week,Fethiyespor have now added a further 3 defenders to their squad this week. Right backs Tunay Acar and Serkan Sehin (both who have represented Turkey at U21 level) have signed from Super Lig sides Bursaspor and Konyaspor respectively and from Germany in comes 21 year old left back Mizgin Demir.
Fethiye have 2 tough looking games coming up,away to 4th placed Balikesirspor this Sunday and then the week after,at home to 7th placed Samsunspor.

Fethiyespor made it 7 games unbeaten with a creditable 1-1 draw at Balikesirspor this afternoon. The hosts went ahead on 52 minutes with a goal from their Togolese forward Lalawele. However after 76 mins they were down to 10 men for a rash challenge on Fethiye's Ali Dere.Fethiye got their equaliser in the 1st minute of injury time when Murat Sozgelmez scored in his own goal.Fethiye at home to Samsunspor next Sunday, ko 19.00

And thats the way it stayed, so Fethiyespors unbeaten run is now up to 8 games. On a rain sodden pitch the visitors had by far the better first half, but the second half was nearly all Fethiyespor, but without any real clear cut chances.Fethiye had a scare right at the end when keeper Sammy Njocks drop kick was charged down by a Samsunspor forward and the ball going in the net.The ref seemed to give the goal before changing his mind and giving a free kick to Fethiye. So 0-0 it finished and Fethiye move up to 15th with 19 points.Away at 13th placed Bucaspor next weekend.

Fethiye played well and should have won this home game on their attacking play.
But despite their possession Fethiye's goalkeeper made a terrific save from a point-blank header. The home defence seem to have improved with the arrival of their new manager as well as new signings.

Did not see anything wrong with the "goal" scored by Samsunspor which was disallowed. In the final 3 minutes of injury time Fethiye's keeper kicked the ball from his hand in a hurried attempt to send the ball upfield. An opposing player was at least 1 metre (perhaps 2 m) from the keeper's clearance and the ball struck his raised boot and ended up in the Fethiye net.

Lucky escape ---hope they carry that bit of luck along with a few more victories to ensure their safety for this season.
Brian
