Reminds me of a tale I heard many years ago, where two prisoners were sharing a cell. At night the first looks out and can only see the bars and the dark..the second looks out and can only see the stars!!

Love it Dave,   It's not possible to air brush the real poor parts of Fethiye and personally, I would not want to. I like the town, warts and all. The rooftops have never bothered us as we look out to the bigger picture.   If fact, last time we where there and looking down my husband remarked how resourceful the people where (who could not afford to have the tiling renewed on their roofs), by using plastic and tyres.

As far as I. Am aware nobody mentioned anything about wanting to airbrush the poor parts of turkey! As a family we have visited Turkey time and time again, enjoying each and  every holiday. :) The turkish people are wonderfull and hard working and we have an awfull lot of respect for them.  After reading reviews on this forum about KG, I was disappointed! My expectations were too high. That is my honest opinion! Im not in the habit of insulting people or being rude,  I respect peoples opinions, even if I disagree with them!

In fairness its all about wether you get a table with the view or not, we went once last winter, and had no trouble getting a table with the view.. but we both said  if we were at any other table away from the view ( and there are many tables with no view or limited view ) then you might as well be dining anywhere.

You won't see it from the restaurant but we walk through those streets when we go home.
Most of the houses started off with big gardens but as the children got married a piece of land was allocated to build a small house. Now most of the gardens are used up.
There are some, very affluent looking villas inbetween these houses and a lot of quite affluent people living in the small ones.
Just before the start of the rainy season the other year I grabbed hold of a polly sheet that was blowing out of control as the owner was trying to cover his roof. I asked if it was too expensive to have a new roof (Yeni chok para ? evet) He replied he didn't need one as it only rained during winter  and he got the poly sheet for free.
And yes, a lot of them sleep on the roof in summer, it's cooler. Go down to the marina and you will find lots of people also sleep on their upper decks.
Its all quite practicle really.
