Hi all,

It is my first time staying in a villa in Calis, Fethiye.

I am stopping for two weeks before deciding whether to buy a villa out there and i am just after a bit of advice and info from either people that have visited or people that live out there.

1. What are the best restaraunts in the area?

2. Were is best place for genuine fake clothing/sunglasses/watches?

3. what is the best supermarket in the area?

4. Are there any Shisha bars and which ones are the best?

5. Do the shops/locals prefere english or local currency?

6. where are the best pubs/clubs to watch english football? as england are on whilst i am away  ;)

Would be really greatful if you could answer my questions and would make my time there a lot better.

Thanks in advance.

As "Scunner" has said, all of your questions can very easily be answered by using the "Search" facility. "Shisha" is more commonly known as "Nargile" in this area of Turkey, & most bars will happily supply same for your pleasure. NO "funny" baccy though !! Enjoy your stay, & I hope you decide to stay.   ;)

We had a nice Shisha at Guvens last month. Went down well with all the Efes  ;)

I'm glad the Shisha thing got explained. I was passing a Shisha Bar on Wednesday lunch time in Didsbury and thought about going in to get a kabab for my lunch  :D

As you will be in Turkey the currency is Lira, so use that in the shops and restaurants.  Use Sterling to buy and you will only get the exchange rate the seller wants to give you.

I would advise you to rent before opting to buy.  There are lots of properties on the market and some are superb bargains, especially with the high exchange rate we have at the moment but I think you are better off renting and taking your time to decide if buying is for you.  Calis is a dream but there is a huge difference  living in a place and going to that same place on holiday.  Part of your adventure will be finding out for yourself where you like to eat, shop & socialise.  As was previously mentioned the Forum has most of the answers to your questions based on people's views and findings but there is nothing better than exploring for yourself.  Enjoy the dream.    ;)

Spot on Ray, that's exactly what I'd recommend. It's easy to get swept away with the dream and rush into things, lovely to take your time and have no pressure. Renting gives time to really research the area
and realise just how much choice there is. You'll have great fun finding all the answers to your questions yourself, though it's helpful to have a few pointers when youre only there for 2 weeks. Ahh . . .  nothing like that stunning excitement of exploring for the first time. Enjoy.   :)

The O.P. is not saying he/she is moving to Turkey, they are thinking of buying a Villa which could mean just as a Holiday Home.  They are staying for a couple of weeks so will probably look at property then.
We came to Fethiye on holiday and bought a Villa in Calis within a couple of days, I am not advising doing this, although we don't regret it at all.  We are just the sort of people who make instant decisions.

My advice would be to tell no-one that you are considering buying otherwise you will have more brothers than you can handle and find that everyone (and I mean everyone) will suddenly be a property expert who knows just the right property (ies) for you to look at. You will be hijacked in no time. Search on here for those agents that come recommended and follow their advice.

As regards the best restaurants etc. I would say go experience them for yourself and you can judge for yourself. More often than not we can't agree. Search for things like "Why did you buy?"

Either way, enjoy your stay.
