Even when they've completed the sides it will still be a river   ;)

Having been out in October a few years back, when the river came to the top of the bank, and not being able to get over the old upside down bridge because of the flow of water, a question occurred to me last week sitting on my balcony with a beer watching them work. Are they going to cover the mud on the flat bits with concrete? Because surely the first heavy flow will wash away the soil depositing it either further down the already shallow channel where the water taxis go or out in the bay. This will then leave the new walls free standing. Then as the water level drops back it will just fill up the token concrete channel they have put at the bottom of the river to channel the summer flow with silt and we will be back to the old situation.

Thanks for posting those pics Des, they're really good. Great timing from our point of view as well as we will be moving to that area very soon and it really looks like an up and coming part of Calis. We were told this was going to happen some time ago when we were looking for a villa in the area, but as with lots of things in Turkey you kind of take statements like that with the proverbial pinch of salt. Good to see it actually come to fruition.

We were also told that it is part of a much bigger project which involves a dam which is apparently some distance away being opened and this part of the canal being  filled up allowing lots of boats to be moored there, similar to the other canal which has been done near the new prom.  Don't know how true that part is but it would help to explain the size of the project. What a nice thought, hope it does happen that way.

"BEER? at 9 am? " No silly 7.30 when they start work, by 9 am I'd progressed to the Jack Daniels!

In answer to your question about covering the mud, yes they are, if you know the bridge at Gunlukbasi (heading towards the D400) that is where they are now with the concreting of the base of the canal. All looking very clean and tidy, for now.

Not forgetting that all the new storm drains are routed to this canal, so when the rain starts up stream and locally there could be a hell of a flood in the canal.
