I'm sorry, I obviously didn't make my original point clear. I'm simply asking why on earth are these supermarket executives taking decisions to start new ventures in an already over saturated area where it is plain to see that the competition has closed because they can't make a profit.

Probably for the very same reason that it happens in the U.K. ,  ;TAX BREAKS !! Pure & simple, maybe, just saying.

Lots of supermarkets but not much for expats to relish or enjoy, which no doubt suits the 'pork' shop as they can charge a fortune for their food.

Any shops between BMB and the Old people's home yet? Or are they all opening next door to each other in existing areas still.

it is now at ground level and work started, but slowly, to build up to the first and possibly higher levels.

we have new market opened 50 metres from us by the canal in Focha.  Small place but seems to do good business in its first month... Too handy for chocy bars and ice creams!! It is I think the only market north of the upside down bridge canal, until you get to main road via tomato valley.

The pork shops imported goods are always cheaper than any of the supermarkets....

The bmb pork shop has been up for sale for the last year or so.
A couple of price examples...
Supermarket red beans 5-7 lira, pork shop 2.50
Worcestershire sauce supermarket price, 13 lira pork shop 7.50
Baked beans supermarket 5 lira, pork shop 2.50
I know which one would get my business  ;)
