Gosh Ankara is close - that would be the biggest news of the night!

In Fethiye the AKP are very close to going 2nd - does that mean that if there wasn't such a strong popular mayor they would take it next time?

There has got to be a recount in Ankara if it stays like this - it is 0.09% difference - I can this one being another Florida :-)

So what now happens to Kerramatin Yilmaz here in Fethiye? Does he remain as a politician or is he now unemployed as the mayor of Fethiye will take over the administration of Olu Deniz.

The old political excuse applies at this time...more time to spend with the family.  Or in this case perhaps more time to spend in the nick, instead of someone from his family.  ;) :o :o

Election over, votes counted..... Poor Turkey :'( .

Actually, no - its not poor Turkey.  What you have to remember is that these were local elections, where, just like the UK, many folks vote for the person not the party.  I'll admit, the AK Party did better than I'd hoped for but the flip side is that it may bring a bit of stability in the short term.  My Carlsberg result would have been for their overall share of the vote to drop to under 40% which would have sent a message without the turmoil a serious loss would have brought.

I was thinking the same thing re people voting for the person they probably know well locally.

In the meantime it gives time for the real cost of the instability with the financial markets to bite and rising prices to hit people where it hurts most. I do not envisage investors flooding back to put their money in the "most fragile" of the five emerging economies as I have seen suggested elsewhere on the internet.

If things continue as they currently are the state of the economy considered the great achievement of this party might not seem quite such a success in a few months time.

However the opposition is weak and weakened by these results so maybe it'll just be business as usual for ever  :(
