If your bank account is emptied (by someone other than you), would you get your money back?
Debit card debts are fully covered from the time you report to the bank that they are missing. Moreover, as was highlighted in the CPP misselling affair, in the great majority of cases your bank will cover for for all losses above £50 incurred before you report - and this £50 is only if your bank can show you didn't take reasonable care over your card or pin. However, I can see the argument in favour of the right credit card as well. Taking more than one card and keeping them separately is a sensible precaution.

P.S. I think the regulations for debit cards are the same as those for credit cards.

3.51 in the UK at The Money Shop, special offer this weekend. A good rate for that bit of cash when you arrive.
