I must agree with Gordon too (bugger, that's twice this year!).  :)

We went on some trips with Evergreen in Hisaronu some years ago and they seemed a reasonably well run safe company.  I don.t know if they are still about. So sorry to hear about the deaths.

There is something especially sad about people getting killed on holiday. Terrible news and more so because it is so preventable.

Yes I agree with Gordon on the whle tourist health and safety thing here in Turkey, but unlike other correspondents on this illustrious site, I frequently do agree with him.  Which is why Mrs Tickets is recommending therapy of some kind.  ;)

Terrible news. Our thoughts are with the families. We have done so many jeep safaris over the years. We always use the large jeeps and I always speak to the driver and tell him  that I have my grandchildren on board and I don't want any bad driving and I sit next to the driver to ensure this.

We've been on a couple in Portugal and they sound much safer. The jeeps were well kept and they drove at the correct speed on public roads.

Once off road we could stand up and they were very careful to tell us when we had to sit down.

None of this water pistol stuff or racing other jeeps but great fun which ended with us very dusty and swimming in a lovely clear lake to wash it off.

These companies need to learn from this and I feel so very sorry for those who have lost their lives.

RIP

Do you take out hazardous sport insurance for the family before you leave the U.K. for these trips?
There is no way my Granddaughter would be on a Jeep Safari..me sitting next to the driver or not... >:( :o

Facebook is alight with 100's of posts re this tragedy.
I have been on 2 Jeep Safaris, they were great. I am now a bit wiser and know never a season goes by without a Jeep safari tragedy. I wouldn't go on another unless in one of the really big jeeps like Gordon has stated.
I cant believe the amount of people saying that accidents happen etc. 'you can get run over crossing the road' etc. Yes you can but do you risk running across in traffic and hope for the best or use judgement to cross safely?
I am not one to stop the fun but the chances of an accident multiply dramatically when you are swinging around in the back of a crappy old poorly modified jeep with the driver racing his mate up the road all spraying water at each other.

The Turkish tourism ministry issued a statement insisting that it takes such incidents very seriously, and that the relevant authorities in the country will carry out a full investigation into the crash.
