Holiday Review 2014
« on: June 29, 2014, 17:52:18 PM »
H is for hosts. Everywhere we went the service was efficient and polite – as always.
O is for oranges. They simply taste so different in Turkey.
L is for Letoon. Ate there twice with our friends and excellent both times, the second time made even more the pleasurable because the wonderful Nevra was still on duty. The present Mrs H said that her Chicken Teriyaki was the best meal she have ever had in Calis
I is for Italian. Which allows me to mention Casa di Mama which in turn allows my to mention who pleased I was to represent CBF in presenting six Certificates to the winners in the Best Restaurant 2013 vote.
D is for doctor. Our friends were in the same café as other residents of the apartments we were staying add who had a sickly young child with them. A local doctor at an adjoining table got up, politely introduced himself and said that he could tell the child was unwell. After examining the child and asking the parents some questions he asked the people to wait while he went to his surgery. He appeared as short time later, handed over some drugs and after refusing payment went back to his table.
A is for Anne (and Billy of course). Two of the nicest people we know and who let us use their apartment.
Y is for yogurt. Not a favourite of mine previously but am coming round to it.

R is for roads. What a difference since we first went.
E is for Eyna. Enjoyed my ever so brief visit to the 3c’s shop there
V is for Violet Apartments. A beautiful complex.
I is for ice cream salesmen. Hadn’t realised that they were so amusing.
E is for efficiency. We travelled with Jet2 and check-in at both Glasgow and Dalaman was super- efficient.
W is for water taxi. Still a lovely way to travel back to Calis after a meal in Fethiye

2 is for the number of splendid visits to Letoon.
0 is for the number of wild passionate nights enjoyed.
1 is for Mrs H. There really is only one.
4 is for the minimum number of times this old man was offered a seat on the dolmus.

H is for Holiday Express Inn. Arrived back at 2:20am to be told by manager on duty “We have a problem this evening – we are overbooked. Blue touch paper lit. My response was less than polite but end with the words “this is totally unacceptable”. Was told to wait while they made some phone calls which I presumed to mean they were trying to find a bed elsewhere. Queue another couple arriving checking-in in under two minutes and being told their room number. Blue touch paper lit AGAIN with me demanding an explanation as to why this couple’s room was not overbooked. Non forthcoming but final outcome - we were given a room but some poor bugger arriving later may not have been so fortunate.
O is for obese people. I readily admit to being overweight but some of the sights at the airport and on the prom have to be seen to be believed.
L is for Litter. Always annoys me seeing the mess that’s left around the place. Fethiye are improving things with tasteful screening. I hope Calis follows suit soonest.
I is for inconsiderate people. One of who arrived at our complex and thought it was acceptable to play has ipod at full blasted around the pool. Was soon sorted by the owners on the complex. Thanks – you know who you are.
D is for Dalaman Airport. Chaos when we arrived. Why on earth do they not provide enough staff when so many flights are landing around the same time.
A is for ambiance. A personal opinion but I think there is far too much neon and noise on the front these days. Maya, one of our favourite haunts, has gone. Gitarci was just about the only place we could hear ourselves think. At one point on a boat trip, the decibel levels matched that of Scarlett
Y is for young people. Those who made no effort whatsoever to allow us past to get off the dolmus. Especially disappointing as they were Turkish.

R is for red line. What an absolute nonsense.
E is for embarrassment. Mine when asking a shop assistant in a Fethiye clothes shop where the changing rooms was greeted with the reply “No idea mate I’m from Glasgow”
V is for Viagra. Far too expensive
I is for idiots. Those who go up and down the prom on that electric scooter things.
E is for endless. The endless number of stalls at the market all selling the same goods.
W is for wheelchairs. Forgive me, but can someone explain why wheelchair users are allowed to “jump” the queue at Passport Control at Dalaman.

2 is for the number of splendid visits to Letoon.
0 is for the number of wild passionate nights enjoyed.
1 is for Mrs H. There really is only one.
4 is for the minimum number of times this old man was offered a seat on the dolmus.

Great to meet you John (albeit very briefly).

I do agree wholeheartedly re "W" the wheelchair user comment.  At Bournemouth airport on our departure, there was queue at bar, and this group with one person in a wheelchair (just dodgy leg, not elderly or disabled), and they jumped queue and insisted they got their order in first.  I wasn't amused, but everyone in front of me did the British thing and just let it go - I was quietly boiling inside.

Sounds like you had a great time H. It seems to have gone by in a flash.
