Bilal has been appearing on a lot of Election platforms lately and his dad has started to tell

the party to bring on the younger  generation.I think he will feature high up in the pecking order

soon as there's a lot to keep the lid on. RTE is scrambling to get a Government he can control.

By AKP rules he cannot be PM after the 2015 election (3 strikes and you're out). He has "done a Putin" by jumping to the President job and will try to transfer all PM powers to Pres. He said so in his victory speech and it has been posted by Nichola.

Just a thought, if RTE doesn't get the control over the next PM that he hankers for, can he then stand again for the PM post in future elections?

We won't have to wait long to find out who the next PM will be. According to RTE, he (well it is the AKP so I think we're safe to say "he" ;) will be announced next Thursday, August 21st, a week before Gul is eligible to rejoin the party. The article below suggests Erdogan is acting unconstitutionally by continuing active membership of the AKP after being elected to the non-party Presidential position.

If the AKP want to change their rules so RTE can come back they can, but I think he plans to rule the roost as President (for ever) if he can swing changes to the constitution to give himself greater powers in that role.

If Gül is prevented from coming back to the AKP in any meaningful role (see Marggie's previous posts with links) then I foresee a new party emerging with Gül as its leader and taking those fed up with the one man show that has dominated the AKP for so long.

Part of me hopes you are correct.  Unfortunately, there is no evidence that when it comes to it that Gul as President or in any other position has been  prepared to stand up to Reg in any meaningful way.  Aside from the mildest of suggestions in a limited attempt to soften the impact of Reg's diktats or policy. So on the basis of that evidence I cannot see him in the future being an alternative to Reg, either within or outside of the AKP.

Excellent article - but will he ever go quietly - me thinks not - he is a born scrapper and let's hope when the time comes as it surely will - there is limited collateral damage for everyone's sake

There is an ancient Chinese curse: "May you live in interesting times". I think Turkey is in for interesting times between now and the General Election.
