I have owned in Calis for 8 years and have had a love hate relationship with the canals .Loved them because they added an element of rustic charm, made the place feel unspoilt by tourism, different from home etc.Hate because they were dirty, often full of rubbish, extremely overgrown at times causing smells and mosses. My view now is that they are inevitably progress, they look nice as you still have the naturalness of the reeds at the entrance to the main canal and the cleaner lines of the new parts making it appear a bit more up market.Yes there have been and there are problems but in time they will be completed to a good standard, weather in and become part of the fabric of the area.Look around you we now have road, wifi, underground cables, street lighting, small parks to sit in etc. These things improve the look of the area making it attractive to visitors which after all is why Calis exists
