I suppose Mac..that the difference is that in Istanbul they use the boats and water as a mode of transport to get about the cityand that is why it can be cheaper. where in Fethiye it is a mode of pleasure mainly for holidaymakers.

Alternatively, perhaps Calis boats are half empty because they are more expensive {or don't run regularly and often enough}, I think Rimms has already referred to Mediterranean Economics which states "When you have fewer customers run fewer boats at a higher price".

Kismet, I think your idea of expanding the service is not only spot on but in all honesty probably the saviour of the service based on the dwindling numbers we have witnessed this year.

I do however think it's a bit short sighted to label this as a 'tourist only' attraction, we know loads of Fethiye workers who live in Calis and Gunlukbasi who may use the water taxi if it was a bit cheaper and especially called at a few more places.

We were out in late April and October and was disappointed to find the water taxis not running, not sure when the season starts/finishes.

Season is suppose to run from the end of April to the end of October, but hey, who knows??  I think they assess how many tourists are about and then decide.
There are two camps here.  One of ex-pats who find the Water Taxi expensive.  One of tourists who are on holiday and find the Water Taxi wonderful (whatever the price).

I was told by a Gullet captain that marine fuel was 5TL per litre, I have no idea if this is true or not.
