Water Taxi - Another price increase
« on: November 04, 2014, 09:18:32 AM »
Not sure if this has been covered but we noticed the water taxi slipped in a price rise to 6tl each way just before the season ended. We thought this was strange as our understanding was the Belediye along with the water taxi co-operative agreed the rates prior to the start of the season.

It will be interesting to see whether they now try and impose a further rise for the start of 2015, if they do, it will be a step too far for us, we always expect to pay a premium for the boat but not at 3 or maybe 4 times the cost of the bus.

I seem to remember it was 4 lira two years ago, 5 lira last year and again for most of this year until the latest rise to 6 lira.

I'm fairly sure it was only 3 lira 5 years ago.

It is as you say (Rimms) a hell of a difference compared with the dolmus and we tend to see it as one of our famous "traditions" now - something we must do and thoroughly enjoyed in a "we're back" relaxed way - but these days when we've done it there is no great desire to do it again - certainly not based on price once the novelty trip is done. The infrequency, the downright BS about when they are actually going to leave both Calis and Fethiye (I don't mind waiting 20 minutes over the timetabled departure but why tell me every time it's "5 minutes later"!!!

Along with the far too early last boat times both ways (I think 5pm was the last one in October?) Half of Calis is heading for Fethiye between 7 and 8, you should try a dolmus at those times to see the numbers on each and every dolmus heading over) - surely they could put on a later couple (and maybe an 11 or midnight one back?

It's something we couldn't visit without enjoyjng, but it's expensive, slow and unavailable too much for it to be considered as a real mode of transport for getting from A to B.

Lotty is correct, not so long ago it was 3tl. The reason I mention the latest price rise is that this year we noticed each time we passed the water taxi there were very few people using the service and wondered if the cost, especially for families was a factor?

We have used the water taxi ourselves several times this year and on every occasion the boat was very quiet as was the one passing in the opposite direction.

It will be a great shame if through a combination of over pricing, inappropriate running times in both the early and late season and poor timetable adherence, this service fizzles out and the answer isn't what we see happen very often here, 'When customer numbers halve, don't worry, just double the price'

Its nothing more than scandelous...........6 lira.......6 lira for a glorious 30 minute boat ride to Calis or Fethiye. that equates to less than 1.70 Uk pounds..........Still I suppose you could walk, pay a lira extra and have another beer
Come on guys 6 lira..its still excellent value...and yes a few years ago it was 3 lira...and so was an Efes too

Water taxis and normal taxis are over priced here.If you compare Istanbul prices or any other city For the same cost of a 4 km trip to Fethiye from Calis you can travel halfway across the city of Istanbul from one district to another. As for the water taxis 10tl return or 6tl one way is daylight robbery. You can do a two hour hop on hop off boat trip along the Bosphorus seeing most of the major sights for the same cost.I know this as i have done it many times whilst in Istanbul. It must be so much more expensive running the taxis here compared to other places.  :o
