Suicide pilot
« on: March 26, 2015, 19:12:47 PM »
So now its been confirmed that the pilot of the plane that crashed was a mass murderer on a suicide mission how terrible for all the families and relatives surely now they need another person in the cockpit when the pilot leaves the flight deck,it was a good idea to deter terrorists but now they will have to have a re think about locked cabins.

They're already doing it and, no doubt, it's going to have a knock-on effect on the whole industry and passengers will pay the cost of the extra manning that will be involved.

Easyjet announced they are making changes with immediate effect. They will have 2 people inthe cockpit at all times now. This implies that 3 crew will be upfront which would allow one at any given time to leave for the loo.

I can remember when there WERE  3 crew members on the flight deck, Captain, First Officer, and Flight Engineer, whose main job was to maintain surveillance of engine function, & instrumentation. I believe that , in many air-lines, the Flight Engineer also had to meet the criteria of sufficient training & flying hours to enable him / her to take over, & land the aircraft in a case of emergency .

My daughter works as cabin crew with Monarch, mainly on Airbus a 320's & 321's. With the amount of flights she does it is some relief that the aircraft is not responsible.

No knock on effect, its a member of crew but no-one has said "flight" crew - more than likely the cabin manager/purser.

And you don't think the airlines will use it as an excuse to increase costs ?

I think this statement by French prosecutors makes it clear that he didn't have a medical emergency:

Andreas Lubitz locked the pilot out the of the Airbus A320's cockpit before setting the plane's controls to descend into a rocky valley, French prosecutors revealed yesterday.

And I think it was reported that the co-pilot had deliberately overridden the pilot's override from outside the cockpit.
