You're right and I agree with you.

I have to admit that we do it ourselves as well but I look at it the other way around.

We charge less from people that we know or who work in resort (waiters, receptionists, etc). Simply because they are on low wages and most of them are struggling.
But if we would charge everybody that amount, then we would not survive.
Because the tourists pay full price, we are able to give a discount to the people who can't afford.

Where I go for my hols is mostly a Turkish resort. By this I mean that 80%+ of the tourists are Turkish. They are not great consumers of Efes and so places there don't sell at at "give-away" prices like 6 or 7 TL. On the other hand they are very demanding in terms of the quality of the food and hawkeye over the prices. So what I lose on the beer swings I gain on the meals roundabout. Fine with me.

It would appear Dutchie from what you are saying that as long as the differentiated charging goes on no one is the winner, businesses, locals (Turkish and other) and of course the poor put upon tourist.  I agree that many of the locals are having a hard time of it, as indeed the businesses, except perhaps for the rentier class.  However, so are many of the tourists who come over here.  Their holiday being their once in the year treat for the family, and they choose to spend it here in Turkey, or in particular this part of Turkey, and so people who make a living, directly or indirectly, from these people should shown them some respect, and the easiest way would be an rigidly enforced requirement for prices to be properly displayed, and wherever it occurs pricing must be in TL.

I agree that prices should be displayed properly, no doubt about it.

But giving locals a discount, doesn't mean that we don't show respect to tourists.
We try to do our best for everybody and if tourists can't afford, then we don't charge them.
And sometimes tourists don't show us respect by taking advantage of that.
So be it. Their conscience, not ours.
