Last November Rimms posted a thread here rightly complaining that Water Taxi Fares had increased the fare from 5TL to 6TL, and here we are with fuel cheaper, lower inflation and they have increased the price again within 5 months to 7TL.  Now according to my poor maths that's a wacking 40% increase.  That's not stinging profitering that's grand larcency.  And while I respect the point about how nice it is to go to and from Fethiye in the boat, there's no reason why people should be gouged to do it.  I know people have the right to not use the service if they do not like it, but come on is this the sort of things Calis wants to get a reputation for?

Which leads me onto a post I put on Rimms thread, which further demonstrated that the Water Taxi are taking the michael then on pricing:

I think they played a similar game on the day hire too.  Putting up the price from 400TL to 450TL late in the season, after putting up the price from 350TL to 400TL less than a year ago.  Plus there appears to be a more 'standard' service approach with little difference in the food (and quantity) between the boats, and the return before 5pm!!  And do not get me started on the 450TL for up to ten people, and then additional people (including children) over the 10 being charged 45TL, it never used to be like that.  It is something that has been slipped in in the last year or so.

Don't get me wrong I love the day out on the boat, we usually get out 6-10 times a year, but I do not like the feeling that I am being ripped off.

I shall go down and find out what they are going to charge for the coming season for private day hire, and if as I suspect they have put up the price to 500TL or more, I shall look for alternatives. >:(

Turkish tourism businesses are fully aware that the Brits are now getting more Lira for their Pound.
So their logic is " they can afford more so we'll charge more ". While people keep paying they'll keep overcharging.   Don't pay more.!!!

         Walk away.

I am surprised nobody has mentioned how cheap the local buses are. We have often travelled from Calis to Fethiye at a fraction of the price of said services, sweaty armpits et al, but for tourists experiencing local life it can be enlightening on local services.   ;D

The Water Taxi is for the tourists in the main and the tourists will pay 7TL for the experience.  I think 7TL is still a cheap price for such a nice trip.  Where would you get a trip like this in the U.K. for a couple of quid.
No one is complaining of the price of beer, which seems to go up every year.  So, for the price of a pint, you get a great experience.

And, not a lot of people know this, but you can ask for wine or beer during the trip but make sure you do it when your with the captain before the boat leaves.

I doubt the annual increases on the Calis water taxi will hurt the "local" - I don't see man taking the boat to work. It's not even a very efficient way of getting from A to B  :)

What they could do is rebrand it as "Fethiye Return Mini Cruise" and charge 20 TL, good price for a relaxing excursion on a boat across one of the most beautiful bays there is.

your probably right on the walk away advice. The only issue I have when the TL strengthened (2.40 to £ at one point) I didn't notice anyone saying the Brits cannot afford it at this price or exchange rate we'd better drop the price......greed never cuts two ways

I see people asking how much beer is all the time, however, I feel this is just the norm and general interest. They will not say they are not going to buy any beer because the price has gone up.
