I'm not aware that it increases at 70 Colwyn, I've just had major surgery. I'm 100% cured but they're not bothered!!!

My wife gets it via Nationwide but the medical surcharge they wanted from me for BP, cholesterol etc etc was more than my total premium with Staysure. Pre operation that is.

These free insurance policies that you get with bank accounts are great providing you don't have any existing medical conditions but they do sting you with extra charges when you declare anything.  A this point you have to decide if it's worth risking declaring all or just pretending you don't have any. But then of course should something happen while you are away it's quite possible you could end up with a bill for thousands of pounds when the insurance company tell you you're not covered.

Not worth it for me.  Our annual policy with Staysure is due to end in November so we're ok for another trip before then but think I will really have to look round when I want to renew it!   :(

We declared to Nationwide that I had high blood pressure controlled by tablets and they said that was fine, no surcharge applied.

Really?  Thats interesting Eric. We have free cover with Nationwide but when I added a couple of conditions a few years ago (me asthma, OH cholesterol both controlled by medication) it was going to cost a lot more than the same policy through Nationwide Insurance!  May give  them another try when I'm researching!

With Nationwide also and no extra for BP med, only because it is one kind, if more than one then would be extra.  We pay £30.00 per year to increase no of days from 30 to 50

Don't forget to read the small print in the insurance wording.

Staysure for example does not cover for Esnaf and Letoon Hospital. It only covers treatment in state hospital.
There are quite a few companies who operate on the same base so worth checking.

Also wise to get in writing that your bank account insurance has accepted your medical conditions.
