True, except the jewellers were changing money for the tourists for years before a change shop even appeared.

Gurbuz ( the jeweller we all used to use ) told me that they were all forced to take down their signs after an official complaint by the owner of the new Change Office.
(It is interesting to note that it was very shortly after the arrival of the new change Office that Gurbuz threw the towel in and moved to Brighton.)

IF it is illegal to change money elsewhere, and the Change Office guy knows Sedat is changing money ( and every one does ) I can't imagine he has not reported Sedat. I wonder why no action has been taken.

I don't think the taking down of signs was particularly due to a complaint by the Change Office in Calis,  as signs have been take down in all resorts, i.e. Hisaronu, Oludeniz, Ovacik etc.,  Even Colin, the clothes shop (and now Estate Agent) guy took his signs down.
I would think that probably Sedat has been reported, but they would need to catch him in the act now.  He does not stand outside the shop and advertise that he changes money.  However, Colin does and it makes me wonder just how he gets away with it as he is blatant.
I have read that some places that change money such as a well know bag shop in Oludeniz (which offers a better rate than the Banks and Change Shops )could be money laundering.  However, I have no idea if this is true or not.
Incidentally, Gurbuz is Sedat's Uncle.

Were would I be without you correcting my spelling.

Ir was a deliberate misspelling by the way.

I always use my Halifax Clarity credit card at the ATM. Perfect exchange rate and no fees, bar a few pence in interest (83p over two weeks last year for around £1000 in withdrawals).

I also don't need to carry £1000 or more in sterling around with me (or stash it in the room/dodgy safe), which would unnerve me.
