It would seem that nothing changes for the better.

You have obviously forgotten about your daughter's seat of learning (and my birth town) Luton. When I was growing up it was officially classified as a sh*thole; these days it has improved hugely, and is now shyte.

Ahhh, Luton, the place that my daughter was offered a room in a house for £90.00 per week.  When the gentleman (not originally from G.B.) showed her the "room"  It was bascially a cupboard (no window) with a mattress on the floor....

Yes, there seem to be a lot of them in Luton renting out very substandard rooms when my daughter was at Uni.   One even kept her £250 deposit when she and her friend left their flat, even though the flat was left in a spotless condition.  It seemed to be the norm down there.

We have seen many changes since 2005 some for the better especially the roads Mrs B  ruined so many shoes  ;D in the 10 years we have owned our apartment in Gunlukbasi it still has the original appeal and we always look forward to our holidays.   8) :-*

October the last plane left for the UK, bliss, no Bars open at night, keep your ear to the ground listen for the jungle drums announcing a bar open for one night,  The Nil Bar open during the day, closed at night.
Phone round the handful of expats living there and arrange a picnic.  no power for days, make your own entertainment.
Quick, Golden Moon is open tonight, Bingo is being played.  I am sure people turned up just to keep warm.
what one did I like? for living there or for holidays.

If you don't like change then never buy in a tourist resort as it will change the fastest. There is still many area's of Fethiye that have not changed that much over 10 years you just have to go a few minutes drive away and hey presto Old Turkey.

Thanks Jacqui, our family homes were in Green Street towards the harbour. We used walk over the hill at the back, through the woods and up to Slains at night to scare ourselves with the bats.It was a tiny place in those days,I remember the summer that the oil came through and thought it would all be ruined but it hasn't really. Its a bit like the question in this thread, yes I preferred the place of old but still love it as it is,a bit like Calis really
