There are properties in Ovacik  where the ladies who live there wear the burka but you would not know because there are high hedges and big gates. I wonder what they make of the lively Hisaronu just down the hill!
Muslim ladies have been swimming in fully covering swimwear or their skirts and long t-shirts around the local beaches and on boat trips for years.

Given that Muslims believe in Armageddon, I can hazard a guess.

Reductio ad absurdum

I don't have the Gaelic stuart T - can you translate.   ;)

There seems to be a theme running through you posts to date

"So - it appears that Calis and Fethiye isn't full of crusty old conservatives"

"I'm far too outnumbered by Welsh, Scottish and Northern tribes"

"I saw two "tribes" (not sure of the collective noun) of ladies in full regalia"

So I thought this might be of interest.   :)

As for the ladies in London who were observed prowling the streets I believe they belong to the "Handbagitis Tribe"! These are dangerous characters to encounter when shopping in Harrods or Harvey Nicks! You best go armed with a Burberry or maybe Hermes.

If you go and have a look at Green Anatolia hotel in Ovacik, which has now become a Helal hotel, I think you will find groups of people, and also families. Certainly not tribes.

Turkey is Turkey. If you not happy visiting it, please go elsewhere.

I don't want to visit a mirror image of Saudi Arabia, Yemen or Syria for my holiday.

Yep, don't then.

You make a fair point Highlander. I've been a bit "one - eyed" perhaps but the sentiments remain.

Reductio ad absurdum - "The more sleep you get the healthier you will be" - a generalisation. To sleep for months on end wouldn't be a good sign.

Lissa - Turkey isn't the same Turkey all over any more than there is one Europe.  I've loved the area(s) of Turkey I've visited for many years and fully intend to keep going.

I've made many Turkish friends - admittedly with "westernised" attitudes  - and considered buying rather than time- sharing a holiday home for some time.

I am concerned about the growing influence of the authorities/ government towards a less secular country and although the south west has been immune to some extent (tourist money perhaps) I feel an undercurrent of opposition to the freedoms I've enjoyed thus far.

Rough translation: "I don't mind the ones that are more like us"
