A number of English women I know, married to Turkish men, seem to be returning at the moment for their children's education. They've been here for a number of years but want to return, particularly for secondary level and in some cases the higher end of primary level.

I totally get why people are leaving when they first came years ago and the interest rates were high and everything was so much cheaper then....but for us newcomers, we are still experiencing that. We live very well here in Turkey for less than half of what we needed in the UK. We are very lucky of course that we are not relying on the interest on savings here to support us.

I fully hope and intend to live out my days here, but if that was not possible for some reason then we would also be unlikely to go back to the UK - we'd probably head to somewhere like Italy or Spain where we have family.

A lot of people are saying it is much more expensive. I personally still think Turkey is very cheap. Especially coming from the Oil Capital of Europe , where restaurants are silly prices. I've just been in London for a week where even there we ate and drank cheaper than Aberdeen. But I think like everywhere the novelty of staying in a new place can wear off after a while. The political situation doesn't help either now

Friends of ours just came back from Bulgaria.  They had a night out locally, with entertainment all  A five course meal a free bottle of wine and a spritzers and then brandy as free starter drinks It cost 28 Lev each, which is just over £10.00 each.   They said they had a wonderful time in Buglaria and would go back.

Friend of mine just came back from a week in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia and reckoned it was the mutts nuts.  Him and the missus had an eighteen course meal, four bottles of wine, three gin and tonics and a couple of beers all served by sultry young ladies in traditional Mongolian dress.  All for the princely sum of 2,300 tögrög - about fifteen bob in real money.

People's love affairs with places virtually always end at one point or another. Sad but true .is it'more a case of people going where they can afford to go?The world is a small place now and moving is easy . But who would return or afford to return n to England , stupid house prices exhorberhent  living costs poor weather ,and let's face it us and the Europe situation undecided . I for one will carry on my love affair with calis , hope and wish one day I could end up out here .
Does anyone think the isis  situation has affected things .I know a few friends have said they wouldn't want to come to turkey for hols never mind to live . It does seem quieter this year

It is always difficult when you dont know the language, that experience sounds very like the welcome meal to the Ghengis Division of the 4th Mongolian Infantry, soon they will turn up at his door with the Uniform and his 20 year service papers  :)
