Friend of mine just came back from a week in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia and reckoned it was the mutts nuts.  Him and the missus had an eighteen course meal, four bottles of wine, three gin and tonics and a couple of beers all served by sultry young ladies in traditional Mongolian dress.  All for the princely sum of 2,300 tögrög - about fifteen bob in real money.

Yeah, but I bet they didn't have cloth napkins.  ;)

Our friends also were shown around a property over there and said it was very nice and really cheap.  I know nothing of Bulgaria and it is not a place I would be desparate to go to, but it seems more and more people are having holidays over their or buying property.  Phil had a workmate that we have met a couple of  times and him and his wife bought a place in Bulgaria about 10 yeas ago and they visit every year.  They were the first ones we ever spoke to about visiting Bulgaria.
I wonder, is it like the early days of Turkey, when so many Brits moved over?

I was talking to a guy in fethiye a few years ago, he had just returned from his Bulgarian house to his Turkish house for the winter, it was October time. He spent his spring/summers in Bulgaria and said it was like the turkey of 30 years ago as regards to the cost of living.

I was genuinely intrigued by what I have seen and heard about Bulgaria till this - I don't fancy living anywhere that makes Turkey a destination to head to for winter!!! Brrrrr...

The common thread through most post relates to cost. The attraction with Turkey in the past as nearly always been that although further away from the UK its cheap when you get there. Friend of ours that used to live near our place in Turkey, have just posted on Facebook from a nice bar Benalmadena  2 San Miguels and 2 Vodka and Cokes....4 Euros, thats less than £3. They are both retired, however when you have a family drink prices really matter. At these prices plus other negatives, Turkish tourism is in real trouble

We had a Bulgarian couple who used to come to the salsa classes we taught back in the UK.
They showed us photographs of the area they came from and it was truly stunning, beautiful beaches and scenery.
They did say, though, that it was bitterly cold in the winter....much worse than the wilds of Yorkshire (or indeed Kaya/Fethiye etc).
But they confirmed that the cost of living is much cheaper and couldn't understand why we would move here and not there....not all about the money though, not for us anyway!

If your budget in Turkey is blown and you want out, property in Ireland is selling cheaply and the cost of council tax and water is a lot cheaper than Britain. A friend has  just bought a two bedroom well built modern house with a solid fuel wood burner heater and solid wood flooring for 26 thousand pounds in the Mayo area. The weather may be wet but at least the houses are built to cope with the winter months. Not much work available of course. She has booked an extended holiday for the winter in warmer climes.

Turkish tourism is in real trouble

It's only the tragic state of the lira saving tourism right now, a pound at 2.5TL would make it a very expensive location indeed - and God (who?) forbid but anything can happen

Pardon my language - foreign tourism Turkey is indeed in a bit of trouble right now, but it is one loop with a Kalashnikov or one strategically placed bomb in a resort from being totally f***ed. Tunisian resorts are empty.
