He's had to apply for a work permit and is waiting to get it approved. Shame as all proceeds go to charity.

Yer having a laugh surely!!  What sort of anally retentive Turkish numpty bureaucrat came up with that idea?  He's doing it for charity for gawd sake, from which the disadvantaged of Turkey gain.  What next, work permits for charity shop volunteers or perhaps Karaoke singers?? >:( >:(

It's not a work permit as such, Lee has to have a letter from the belidiye giving Rod permission to perform on a specific date that states that he is not being paid. Without it, both Lee & Rod could be in a whole lot of trouble. Since the belidiye are on an extended holiday for Kurban Bayram, they are not going to get that letter this week

Obviously had a double dose of your "mock outrage" pills this morning.

Nothing's changed - it's always been the case that anyone classed as an entertainer (who intends to entertain while in Turkey) has to have a valid work permit, irrespective of whether they are getting paid or not.  For one off charity events, like Liz says, the local belediye can give permission fairly quickly - its just a case of getting the paperwork right.

It sounds like the events have become victims of their own success, folks doing small gigs for charity tend to slip under the radar - or it could be that someone has decided to (out of jealousy?) "make a telephone call"...
