I think it raises awareness of other services, such as bereavement counselling, that poor young girl just now...
And the various independent small charity hospices, and organisations that  no one would know about otherwise.

Whatever and however, it raises millions for so many fantastic worthy causes.

I agree, I am in favour of money being raised for Charity.  I just hope the BBC will soon release last year's money that they are still holding onto, to the Charities, who applied last year and are still waiting.

jacqui - I have been watching tonight's programme and I agree 100% with kayakebab in that Children In Need helps independent small charity hospices, and organisations that  no one would know about otherwise.

Let's leave the other charities to do what they consider is best and let Children In Need, flaws and all, get on with helping kids.

I have been watching Children in Need tonight and, ok I can manage without some of the 'celebrities', but the fact is that millions of people are very moved by the stories of the children who have been helped by the money raised. Me included. As already said this money goes to the small organisations and charities people have never heard of but who do such a vital job. It's also very easy to donate and people get together and have a bit of fun while raising money.
With the amount of money raised it will take an enormous administrative effort to make sure the money goes to those who need it, not simply a case of 'handing it over'.  The money obviously is getting through.
I've just watched again a film about a 15 year old girl who lost her father to bowel cancer three years ago and now her mum is also terminally ill. She has received bereavement counselling to help her through these difficult times.
And over 31 million pounds raised so far.   :)

I mentioned in another thread that we choose our charities carefully due to limited funds.

Well after watching last night we found another few quid that we are donating to CIN.

I think it's a great way to raise money and long may it continue. It has a unique way of making one feel humble.
