J.F.  I am merely trying to help by reporting something I read on T.A.

Jacqui - I am genuinely interested in why you appear to set such store by T.A.

Because it is nonsense - and if you think that's me being nasty, you really don't know me.

In there lies the problem in my opinion.

We don't know you. We only "know" you through what you post on this Forum.

Why all the agro over a simple question - Is your luggage insured.

Surely it was simply a warning to check your policy coverage. So why shoot the messanger.

It wasn't a simple question.  It was suggesting that, on the basis of third hand information from a Tripadvisor posting, that hand luggage may not be covered by (in this case Tesco Bank) travel insurance.

Over the years CBF members have come to rely on this forum providing accurate information in respect of many aspects of living in Turkey, holidaying in Turkey and travelling to and from Turkey.  Some members are less "worldly" than others and when they read stuff like this will a) believe it and b) go on to propagate a completely misleading piece of information - they may even go so far as to change/cancel a Tesco policy.  That is the power of CBF.

It took two minutes to verify that this piece of third hand information, from a commercial forum, is nonsense.

It's no different to the "I read it on Facebook therefore it must be true" type of posts.

If you post gossip/rubbish/nonsense/Facebook rumours you are certainly not helping members...

I could add the word 'nonsense' to the swear filter if members like. I don't consider calling a post nonsense offensive, if you believe it is nonsense.

Maybe saying "that is not the case", has less of a dismissive, contemptuous  impact  when saying J's post was "nonsense". Just saying

Because JH would never dismiss someone's post as 'nonsense' innit  ;)

This is why we always book speedy boarding on Easyjet so we get on the plane and ensure our hand luggage is stowed away in the lockers in front of us, where we can keep an eye on it.  What a horrible thing to happen.  Haven't actually checked our insurance but would imagine it would be covered - it is theft after all.
