Journey of a Donation

The journey of a donation…

Don’t throw away your unwanted items, drop them off at our charity shop. We love to re-use what you don’t want.

Have you ever stopped to wonder what happens when you donate that dress you remember buying for £50 and never wearing? Or to the bagful of clothing that is still in good condition that you won’t wear again?

Here’s your chance to find out…

Donations are dropped off at the shop.

First they go into a storage area where they are sorted into piles, good quality items that will be sold in the shop and other items that will be donated to the poorer villages in the area.

Clothing is then washed, ironed and either sent to the villages or priced and displayed in the shop. There are men’s, women’s and children’s departments as well as books and bric-a-brac so you can easily browse around. The books are sorted into alphabetical order so if you are looking for a particular author you don’t have to trawl through endless piles of books.

Surplus stock is stored in plastic containers in a dedicated storeroom until needed.

Not everyone can afford to buy new clothes and the FIG shop is busy with regular and new customers who know they can get good quality items at great prices. Sales take place regularly offering even better bargains!

But what happens to the money?

The shop is the main source of income for FIG and is manned purely by volunteers. Once the rent and utility bills are paid, what’s left goes into the FIG bank account. All monies raised by FIG are used in a variety of ways; funding regular financial commitments (service bus to schools is one), providing equipment for schools, healthcare and many other projects.

The shop wouldn’t be able to continue without the hundreds of items that are donated every week by YOU!

So next time you pull something out of your wardrobe that you haven’t worn for ages STOP!

DON’T put it back or throw it into the rubbish, DONATE IT to FIG. You have an opportunity to make someone’s day and help a child in the process.

The FIG shop is located at: 132a Süleyman Demeril Blvd: Patlangıç Mah. Fethiye.

The shop opening hours are: Monday to Saturday 11am – 3pm

Call us on 0535 494 7506 to make arrangements to have your donations collected.
