Title: Olive Garden at Kabak
Post by: Rimms on July 05, 2012, 11:08:12 AM
We have decided to take ourselves off for a week and do a bit of exploring, we can't decide whether to travel down the coast towards Kas or head North up the coast.

Recently I have seen a number of advertisements for the Olive Garden in Kabak and thought it might be nice to spend a night there, has anyone been and could give some direction on how to get there?

Cheers.

Head north up the coast every time.  Haven't stayed overnight but have visited for the day.  The restaurant/ bar is very popular with walkers and the scenery in that area is stupendous.  I don't think I have ever seen anything quite so spectacular and just love visiting that area - it is so tranquil.

Go go through Olu Deniz and follow the signs for Faralya (Butterfly Valley) - sorry don't know correct spelling.  Alternatively, once an hour the Olu Deniz Dolmus continues to Kabak.

Another place to consider staying is the Lazy Lizard at Faralya.  Good food, nice wine and not too expensive.  Infinity pool with towels and swimwear provided.

That is brilliant and Thanks Margie, I guess it must be the road that runs past the old white dolphin restaurant ?

We will give the lazy lizard a try when we head up there next week. Really looking forward to it.

Sorry don't know the White Dolphin but you pass Lykia World if you know where that is.

The road past the old White Dolphin is the right way. lazy Lizard can be missed. After travelling tho Faralya(Uzunyurt) there is a small market on the left hand side some 4k along. Just after the market there is a dolmus stop with an Ad for lazy lizard need to turn left immidiatly before the dolmus stop. dont be put off by the road condition as all really good hotels should have roads like that??.. Olive garden is right at the end of the main road, best to go to the turnaroud area then start to head back towards Olu for about 150 mtrs then you may see the sign for Olive Garden on the left. Again not the best road and a little steep but plenty of parking area at the Garden. fab drive, both even better places.

When you're at Kabak, it's well worthwhile making the extra effort to walk up along the Lycian Way to Alinca. The views from the top are stunning.

An infinity pool gives the illusion that there's nothing between you and the horizon.

Or down to the beach.

You won't get the same view from the beach though.  : :)

Well we went and stayed at Olive Garden and would sum up my review in two words " Unfulfilled Potential "

The setting is undeniably beautiful, the pool is OK but not brilliant and we found it hard to find shade, they have several Turkish style kabananas, ( not sure of the correct word) but all of these were occupied, unfortunately many by people who had left towels, books etc. and then gone off to the beach. There are no sun beds and you have to search for an umberella which were hidden away behind the cabins.

The rate we were offered was dinner, bed and breakfast, dinner was mushroom soup which was delicious, then stuffed vine leaves, just OK and main was a vegetable casserole, a bit like chunky veg soup, again, not great. After hearing about the cooking skills of the owner/ chef, we were left a little underwhelmed and even the main menu was limited to say the least.

Not much that the Garden could do about the lack of electric when we visited, but it was off for a large part of our stay, however we couldn't understand the absence of hot water in the shower at anytime during our stay.

The cabins ( we called them a bed in a shed ) do not have A.C. The owner told us that the electrician would fit a ceiling fan and sure enough at about 5 pm the spark arrived and fitted brand new fans to most of the cabins, these were the sort that revolve 360 degrees, the problem was that 90 degrees of this rotation was as loud as a motorbike, I suffered this until 3 am and set off to the pool hoping to get some quiet in a kabananas, this plan failed when snoring from one of the staff was heard from the cushions next door.

We would definitely return to the Olive Garden for a snack and drink, as said earlier, the setting is wonderful. We drove down to Dalyan and stayed in one of the nicest places we have ever been. Will post a review about the BC Spa at Dalyan soon and the amazing jacuzzi suite we enjoyed for 2 days there.

I love the setting of this restaurant and I have found the food good but lack of shade is definitely an issue. The next person to go here please make them aware of this. I will take my own umbrella next time. The walk down to the beach is long but nice going down, exhausting and seems much longer coming back up.

I would like to know how far and difficult the walk is from here to Alinca KKOB if you read this.

I would like to know how far and difficult the walk is from here to Alinca KKOB if you read this.

It's probably less than a mile as the crow flies but it's a steep, windy, rock strewn, path all the way up to about 700 metres above sea level.

Kabak (Beach) to Alinca is 6.6 Km (4.1 miles), and the elevation difference from the beach to the summit is 790 m (2,600 ft) the track is gradual ('ish) for the first 2 miles sea level to 950 ft, but following that the next 2 miles is quite a climb, should take about 2 hours ('ish). If you give it a go, wear good boots, don't do it when it's too hot and take plenty of water, but as KKOB says it is well worth it as the views from the path up and at the summit are quite breathtaking !.  (please see images on next post for a taster).  :)
