Title: Meeting Point
Post by: mercury on July 24, 2012, 21:17:16 PM
We bought the meal for 2 at he Meeting Point from the Promises Auction. We had garlic bread given free. starters. I had the fillet steak with mushrooms and onions and barrie had the pepper steak. Both were cooked to perfection. A lovely desert each.  vodka and tonics and 3 beers which he only charged us 18YL for. Service was excellent. We had tried 3 times to get in there and each time the place was full to bursting and now I Know why. We went this Sunday for the English breakfast and we can honestly say it was the bes we have ever had in all the 5 years of living here. 2 of our friends went yesterday and they said the same. 10TL with 2 large mugs nescafe. Thanks Ahmed, Lovely man.

It's great to read all of the feedback reviews following the promises auction, we have never eaten at the Meeting Point but will definitely give it a try following Anne's post and we will tell Ahmet what prompted our visit.

I really hope all of the traders who very generously donated a promise get to hear about the good things said here on the forum which will significantly help us when we are asking for their support next year.

Ahmet and the guys are so genuine and welcoming and totally agree with Grizabella's comments about how excited Ali is about becoming a daddy for the first time. He will be great Im sure. Think Im going to try the fajitas in September as I saw them come out to another table last time and they looked really good   :)

An absolutely brilliant place been eating there for many years since it changed hands and it has been brilliant at least 2 times a year for 7 odd years and we have only had 2 meals that were still good but not special however on both times Ahmed offered us a discount despite us not asking for one and not really minding too much considering they were busy nights with stags stag do and a couple of birthdays.

We had a birthday there trust organised the balloons cake fireworks and even did a Sunday roast on a Wednesday I consider the meeting point the best restaurant by a mile and the staff are brilliant they also have all sports on their TVs and has the wii if you want to get the kids out of your hair

We had a wonderful meal in there last night. The steak as always was fantastic.. So tasty.... Alis new baby was born early because it was breech. A girl called Elif. weighing 7 pounds..... I have never heard a bad word about Ahmet which lets face it is a miracle..... People were queueing again last night to get in. As it is pretty quite in Calis at the moment It speaks volume as to how popular it is.

I think it proves what we all agreed years ago. Do it right, at the right price, at the same price for everyone and you'll see the rewards. Hence the success of the likes of Eren Spot, and the Meeting Point. I'm a little annoyed that it has become so busy, it used to be a secret  ;)

Title: Re: Meeting Point

Have just been discussing with Brenda.

So successful that there are people waiting outside for a table. That might suggest the possibility of moving to a bigger location.

Difficulty is where - and would it be the same brrilliant success that it clearly is at it's present location.

And to take it a stage further, would a larger premises be detrimental to the Meeting Point? Bigger doesn't always mean better and can result in worse. I vote they stay where they are  :)

Title: Re: Meeting Point
Post by: Karennina on November 07, 2012, 12:31:10 PM
Nooo don't move it keep it where it is, part of it's sucess is defo Ahmed and his staff, he genuinely cares whether you have had a good meal,(though I have never had a bad one) he will adapt things on the menu so you get what you want, the menu's are all clearly priced no ripping off going on there and it is the best place in my opinion in Calis to eat that is away from the prom  :)
Title: Re: Meeting Point
Post by: kenkay on November 07, 2012, 22:27:36 PM
If it did move to bigger premises I assume it would be somewhere close by, not in Marmaris, so Ahmed, Ali and co would go with it and presumably maintain the same excellent quality and service.
Title: Re: Meeting Point
Post by: mercury on November 08, 2012, 15:03:43 PM
Doubt if they will move. They tried larger premises on the front when it was named The Berk, Better to have a small place always full than a large place half empty. He also like to give the personal r
touch which would be lost if he moved again.
Title: Re: Meeting Point
Post by: Toky on November 08, 2012, 18:00:31 PM
How did we get to them moving? Thats how rumours start methinks. I think you Scunner, may have to accept some responsibility for it always being busy. To be honest, we've by passed it for the last 3 years and only tried it for the first time in September this year! And we tried it because of the good reviews bossman has been giving it on the forum. So it's not a wee secret anymore thankfully, or we'd have missed out on a couple of smashing meals.
  ;)

When it was the Berk, on the prom, Ahmed was employed as the "front man", it was not his establishment. The Meeting Point is his first solo ventute.

We saw him when we were out (but not to eat there) and he was indeed chuffed at his victory - he mentioned it to me, not the other way round.

I have no problems providing a framed certificate - it's also great for the forum to mean so much to the local businesses - and I'd like to do it every year.

The problem I have is that I can't find a certificate template that is of sufficient quality, but I'll keep looking. Plaques/awards are difficult to find as one-offs but I'll sort something.
Title: Re: Meeting Point
Post by: Highlander on May 01, 2013, 22:56:27 PM
Just a thought but does the certificate have to be "a certificate template that is of sufficient quality".

If memory serves, and in my opinion, the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence (?) is not the greatest design I have every seen. But is prized.

This Forum and Calis itself is about fun so how about a fun/quirky  "Best Restaurant" certificate.
Title: Re: Meeting Point
Post by: Bluwise on May 02, 2013, 06:39:49 AM
Why not use the CBF logo as a watermark background and then choose a  certificate template from powerpoint - as Highlander says, it's the recognition that counts.
Also, the simplest of designs can look really special in a fancy frame.

Scunner,  I often see blank trophies, plaques  etc., at Auctions.  Give Loves in Perth a ring and ask do they have any.. They are not the best sellers so often remain unsold..

Can I say thank you for all the advice and offers of help - both in this topic and privately.

I have a rather satisfactory design for this year's, and an offer of transport to get them over which I am grateful for and will arrange. They'll need to get their own frame if they want it framed though, this is someone else's baggage allowance  ;)

Also a great offer for a more professional design in future.

Many thanks!

My dad loves the Meeting Point and often goes there for baklava and cay when he's over.
He loves the chicken soup in Seckin but then discovered its even nicer at the meeting point.
We've been with Dad for 2 meals there whiles he's been over, and I have to say both were spot on.
I had the chefs own pasta, it was cooked to perfection, with pieces of tender filet steak, chicken, tomato, mushroom and a cream sauce. Exceptional value at 15tl.
Probably the nicest meal I've ever had over here apart from the calamari at Oztuklu!

Today we went for lunch and I had fish fingers, chips and beans as I never get the chance to have fish fingers normally as John hates them.
They were like mini breaded fish portions, 6 of them, homemade and delicious and just 7tl.
John had madras curry and said it was the best he's had in Calis, and his mixed omelette today was exceptional.

I had their full English once and it was perfect.
This place really deserves its award.

Up until a couple of weeks ago, I was quite possibly the only member of CBF to have not eaten here!  :o

However, as they won best restaurant I decided we'd better give it a try this year and we loved it.  The first time we went we both had the fish of the day, which was excellent (and hubby is very fussy about his fish so this is quite some compliment).  Second time he had the fish again and I had a chicken fillet in a sauce served on sliced potatoes with garlic, and proper vegetables (carrots, broccoli, green beans).  It was delicious.  The place was just about full both times we went and seemed the same every time we passed it.

I can understand why this was voted top restaurant, the food and service is excellent and prices very reasonable.

Definitely on the list for next year!

Had bad experience at meeting point last October, nobodies fault, but we had a 30 min.power cut, the place was full, we waited an hour for our food, nobody apologised or explained, we were virtually ignored as there were several large parties in the place who were given free drinks etc. but as we are two middle aged ladies we were obviously not classed as important enough to be classed as future customers. Going back to calis next week, will try again!

We when last night, for the first time, after recommendations here.  We enjoyed lovely meals, no rice chips etc, but broccoli, cauliflower and green beans and mashed potato with my chicken dish and Phil's Mexican dish was wolfed down.  First meal this time under 100 lira.  So two meals, two G & T's one water, two efes and also two ice creams, total 86 lira.  Great value, good food and really nice staff.  We will be back. :D

Thanks Jacqui - I confess to having been worried if the 135 lira have been just for a main and a couple of drinks. :o

It's been the best value and quality meal  we've had this holiday. One of the very few places that are busy in the evening.

We actually ate here 3 times this holiday. It's had a makeover, new tiled terrace, new sliding glass doors and new lighting. The staff are very attentative and  the service is first class.

We have eaten there twice now, very impressed with food and service, down side is just had to look in the silver shop next door.  Up side is, the silver was remarkably well priced, think he would sell a lot more if he put some priced on things. Got a lovely necklace as a present for my D I L.  As he had no changed he asked us to return with the balance the next night..

Can only reiterate comments made all ready.

Very good food and service.

I do have to say however that if Ahmet had said "Ooo la la" one more time, I may have had to give him a slap.  ;).

Been using The Meeting Point on every holiday for the past four years. Love this restaurant, the staff, the food, the prices are all of very high standards... So much so that I wouldn't consider eating anywhere else. over the course of my holidays I've eaten my way through the menu. A truly relaxed and friendly place, Ahmet and staff (mostly family) are great company   ;)

You eat at the Meeting Point every lunchtime and every evening when you are on holiday? You aren't particularly adventurous really are you :D

Scunner, this is a wind up, why would anyone want to eat at the same place everyday when there are so many places to choose from.  The only people I every knew to do this where my Mum and Dad who were set in their ways and frightened of change, which is why I knew exactly what they would be eating on any day of the week, they had a set menu for each day, can even remember now.  ;D  ;)

The best restaurant, in the opinion of someone who has only ever tried one, is entirely worthless.

In response to previous comments..    Yes I eat at the meeting point every morning and evening whilst I am away. This is not a wind up or a promotional post.My holiday I eat where I feel comfortable. My first visit I tried various restaurants, but enjoyed the meeting point. So now I do not eat anywhere else except maybe at my apartment!  Maybe you find this strange but my holiday, I pay, so my choice. ..

The neon sign above the entrance now has a looping message which reads "The Best Restaurant 2012 and 2013" but fails to mention CBF.

Perhaps someone who is going over can have a word   :)
