Can anyone tell me what the exchange rate will be next June :)
-
1.75
-
it will be the equasion between which ever currency you have and the currency you need :)
-
Or even Equation ;D ;D ;D.
-
But can anyone tell me what the weather will be like in the UK. in April when I come over? ;)
-
Similar to what it is now BUT prices will increase and make it worth less. Speculation is a wonderful thing. At the moment I'm chasing the best rate for the Euro as I'm off to Spain next week-end.
-
Thanks for all the replies - but I posted this to test the facebook link.
Not sure that it worked :(
-
Should appear soon :)
-
And it came to pass ;D
-
Gives the topic time to develop - we don't want people thinking we are all questions and no answers :D
-
H - I can answer that for you, but you will need to wait till until next July.
-
There's more chance of getting this one right than the country quiz! ;)
-
In April the weather will be, Sunny, with
A chance of rain.but will be cooler
When it gets dark.
-
I think it will be better than it has been but not as good as you would like.
Or maybe it will be worse.
-
2-94 :D
-
according to my calculations on june 1st the rate should be 2.5465933224456325698599996541216545966425352689547812563258745996612556478954125632568547845125895632544125478874599654445895623654781254685965233652145874589652355698541255223366511457842135689421523.

Mine too. Must be right.

Blimey, where did you get those figures from Andy? The Fethiye clothes shop con man.
-
There is a man in Fethiye at the clothes shop that will give a better rate mind you !
-
Certainly not the one we all know on here Steve. ;)

The way to calculate what the exchange rate will be in June is to use this formula:
Today's TL:£ rate x (UK economic growth rate ÷ Turkish growth rate) x (Turkish inflation ÷ UK inflation) x (your inside leg measurement in inches ÷ quadruple your UK hat size) = exchange rate January 2014.
You then need to multiply the difference in rates by 5/12 to get the June figure. Hope you find this helpful.
-
Oh now I understand !!!
-
My apologies. There is a serious mistake in the formula that I am sure many of you will have spotted immediately. Your hat size must, of course, be trebled and not quadrupled. To show how this formula works here is a worked example using the most recent economic data and my own sizes.
Today’s exchange rate = 2.83
UK growth = 0.5%
Turkey growth = 1.6%
UK inflation = 2.7%
Turkey inflation = 6.16%
Inside leg = 31 inches
Hat size = 7.25 (x 3 is 21.75)
So the formula will be:
2.83 x (0.5 ÷ 1.6) x (6.16 ÷ 2.7) x (31 ÷ 21.75) and thus
2.83 x 0.313 x 2.28 x 1.425 = 2.88
Hence the January 2014 exchange rate will be £1 = 2.88TL and, if change is steady, the June rate will be .......... 2.85TL.
Voila!
-
Colwyn. do shut up, your starting to sound like someone that has started burns night a tad to early. ;) :)
-
I thoroughly enjoyed both of Colwyn's post on this thread - they made me smile broadly.
But then, Colywn's posts normally do ;D
-
You may laugh but we will all be checking the rate in June just in case he is right :D
-
There is a man in Fethiye at the clothes shop that will give a better rate mind you !
Be careful, he's got two shops now, the new one is about 3 doors down from his main shop.
-
He stopped me the other day and asked why I never changed any money with him.
So, I broke it to him as gently as I could "'Cos you're a thieving barsteward matey!"
That's deflation for you. ;)
-
It will be like every year, more or less the same :)
-
I've recently heard from a Turkish lad at uni that currently the exchange rate is about £1 to 3 lira. Can anyone confirm this and if it's likely to stay around that mark come July this year? Thanks :)
-
Hovering around 2.75 at the moment.
The only thing that is certain for July is that it will be very hot.
-
I reckon 2.05 in July.
-
I assume you are going in July then :)
-
Well I'm glad it will still be hot! Always like that guarantee :D
Will still take 2.05, forgot it drops in the middle of the season. And yes, going back in July. America fell through (too expensive for a student) so I've taken the parents kind offer to join them in beautiful Calis instead of house-sitting - wasn't a difficult one to choose on!
As long as the price is for Efes hasn't increased for Dad ;)
-
I think Dad might be a little disappointed :(
Actually it hasn't particularly dropped (exchange rate, not Efes) in readiness for the season in more recent years. It's been high (2.98ish) recently but currently on a staggered decline to around 2.74 right now, and possibly further - but nowadays it's fairly stable so could just as easily go up as down.
-
My apologies Miss.M - I was being flippant :-[.
Scunner's is the sensible and accurate answer ;D.
-
Hey, Miss.M has only made 4 posts and has already hit two of the all-time favourites - what will the exchange rate be? and what will be the price of Efes? Since Amca has added the third - what will the weather be like? - I think this is a full-house and possibly a record. Impressive stuff.
-
If she can slag off Hisaronu and claim the Mutlu has been sold, we'll call it a full house :)
-
I've just heard that The Mutlu is in new hands, Oh, and by the way, Hisaronu is S*I*E !! ;)
-
Haha I thought Efes would be a fun add. Having enjoyed Hisaronu for one night I can't slag it off, makes a change from Calis for the 'stay up til dawn' party animals :D.
Despite it being a flippant post H, I wouldn't have been too surprised if it went down that far. But let's keep in mind I'm not great with maths, economy etc.
Any updates on the Mutlu?
-
Surely we can't have a full house without a malicious rumour being circulated by disgruntled expats about a certain website owner. .
-
My apologies Miss.M - I was being flippant :-[.
Scunner's is the sensible and accurate answer ;D.
dont be such a bum licker John, i forecast 2- 94 ages ago, come on lets have a little contest, all predictions welcome, whoever gets it right. scunner buys the drinks. yes.
-
As I promised you H, the exchange rate on 1st June - according to Coinmill - is 2.85.
http://coinmill.com/GBP_TRY.html#GBP=1 (http://coinmill.com/GBP_TRY.html#GBP=1)

Well done Colwyn. :)

-
Yesterday in ING Bank - 2.83. So very close.
that's pretty low for a bank Eric, sekur was 2.88 and finnans 2.86, I think 2.95 within a couple of weeks.
-
2.83 at Dikman today
-
Rhubarb
-
How much is that per kilo?
-
XE @ 2.90 today. Will it make 3.00 before we arrive in three weeks?
The TL touched a 12 month low against the £ today at 2.9228 (BBC Market Data) earlier today and still heading downwards. So you could have a chance, Stoop. Would make mental calculation easier in case Hilary goes on a spending spree - again.
-
293.96 at the moment on XE :)
-
2.9454 on BBC Market data
(Might even be 3 by the time we arrive next Friday ;) )
-
293.96 at the moment on XE :)
I'll have some of that :)
-
Misplaced decimal point methinks ;D ;D ;D
-
2.9454 on BBC Market data
(Might even be 3 by the time we arrive next Friday ;) )
I can't find the link to change money on there - can anyone help ;)
-
2.96 showing on screen this morning, could 3.00 by Monday, time to start changing the GBP methinks. :)
-
2.935 still looking good 8)
http://www.xe.com/currencyconverter/convert/?Amount=1&From=GBP&To=TRY
-
I got 2.945 at ING today - advertised at 2.90 at exchanges in Fethiye and Calis :D
-
Please could someone mail me the directions to these banks with the decent exchange rates in fethiye!!
i heard ING and finans and sekur. However, i can only find the finans bank branches on their website the other two was in Turkish and me being ignorant or a tourist doesn't know the language :(
Getting annoyed in Calis using the jewelry store now offering me 2.7 :(
I appreciate your time mailing me in advance btw!!! thanks alot :)
-
Have you tried Zumrut the Jewellers always a good rate in there.
-
the bank next to HSBC in Fethiye is mentioned regularly I think it is the Seckur. It is located in Carsi Caddessi.
-
Can someone clarify for me please do you need to have an account with any of these banks to change money or can you just walk in and change money up? thanks for any replys :)
-
Also is it right, does anyone know, that you can only legally exchange currency with a person/establishment licensed to do so?
-
There's signs saying this gone up in Calis, but I can't find anything saying this online anywhere.
-
Karen you don't need an account but may need to show passport if you don't bank there
-
I think it is called the Șeker Bank. Apologies if I am wrong.
-
I think those signs were put up bt the change office!!
-
The best exchange rate in Calis for us has always been at the supermarket on the
corner nearest the taxi rank at the dolphin roundabout.
-
That's the twin's old place. However, there is nothing to stop anyone changing money where they want to. We have always found Sedat at Zumrut will give a better rate than anyone else in Calis and is always better than the change office.
Directions to Banks in Fethiye, Standing at Migros in Fethiye town centre with you back to the shop, cross the road and walk to the right and keep on walking you will come to some Banks.
Back at Migros, cross the road and turn to the left and take the first road on the right just passed the zebra crossing walk up that road cross passing Ramadan Department Store and then next corner is the ING Bank.
Back at Migros, Cross the road and go right and then take the next road on the left, it's a one way street. walk up on the left to find more Banks.
-
Well I have viewed my bank statement for the second two weeks in June and find that the cheapest I paid for a TL was 33.58p which equates to £1 = 2.98TL. Not quite 1:3 but only the tiniest smidgeon off. I'm happy with that. Get the right plastic and you get the best rates - better than any bank, official or unofficial change office will offer and heaps better than TQs. Hooray!
-
Would you mind elaborating Colwyn, please?
-
I have elaborated so many times over the years, including a few months ago, that I fear I may be getting rather repetitive and possibly boring. However, you've asked and I'll answer.
What you need to have in your wallet is a debit card to use an ATM that has ZERO ATM fee charge AND ZERO exchange loading. It is the second one that most people don't notice. With bad banks they may charge you 1.5% with minimum payment of £1.50 just to use a foreign ATM. This is shown on your bank statement as "Withdrawn XXX TL. @ YYY exchange rate. ATM fee £1.50". OK, you are prepared to pay to access your own money? Fine. [I am not].
The second charge is the one you don't see and is the YYY bit. In the bad bank you are charged an exchange rate of 39.8p per TL. You look at that and you say "Looks OK. It was worse last year". But you may not realize I was using the same ATM on the same day and I was charged 38.6p per TL. Doesn't sound a lot? Well on a £100 worth (300TL) of withdrawal you have been charged £4.50 for the pleasure of accessing your own money. I haven't been charged anything. That is what I mean by the "right" plastic - in relation to debit cards. There are also "right" credit cards.
But I am going out into the sun-soaked garden now and will write more later.
-
I can see that some of the banks may offer a slightly better rate than the various shops in Calis - but surely life is too short for queueing in a bank in Turkey?
Ian
-
For every 100GBP a 0.01 change either way. up or down, makes a 1 tl difference
Does it really matter folks :)
-
Was anyone talking about 0.01% change? Who the hell was that?
-
Colwyn - a meant the difference between say 2.90 to 2.91.
I confess to not having noticed the difference between Fethiye and Calis rates.
-
I use an N & P Debit card which gives what Colwyn is saying and it is normally a better exchange rate than on the street or in the banks in Fethiye.
I also use a Nationwide credit card for large purchases which is also zero handling fee and a very good rate in comparison.

Colwyn are you bilingual or do you just talk through your bum.

Yes Bewya! This is one of the "right" solutions and, indeed, the one one I use. Thanks for posting it; it saves me from writing Part II to Menthol. But it may not be suitable for everyone. You have to put £500 into N&P every month for your "free" foreign money and you need a NW Flex current accout to get a NW credit card. I don't find either of these a problem. But I have no debt (not even on credit card), have never used an overdraft, am not looking for a loan, and don't worry about current account interest rate. Other people may have different circumstances and should do their own research
-
Thank you Colwyn and bewva - very edifying. Not very interesting, but very edifying. :-*

Hi All
Whats the interest rate at the moment? We travel 16th july and are a bit unsure what to do.

Am I right in assuming you mean the exchange rate?
If so its around 2.94tl/£ depending on where you change.

Colwyn are you bilingual or do you just talk through your bum.
Hi Des, I guess your new teeth are still irritating you?
-
Yeah i used Zumrut this year best rate (well we didnt go anywhere else so biased opinion :D)
His uncle isnt there anymore though which we got confused about on the first day but still a good rate.
