The best exchange rate in Calis for us has always been at the supermarket on the
corner nearest the taxi rank at the dolphin roundabout.

That's the twin's old place.  However, there is nothing to stop anyone changing money where they want to. We have always found Sedat at Zumrut will give a better rate than anyone else in Calis and is always better than the change office.
Directions to Banks in Fethiye,  Standing at Migros in Fethiye town centre with you back to the shop, cross the road and walk to the right and keep on walking you will come to some Banks.
Back at Migros, cross the road and turn to the left and take the first road  on the right just passed the zebra crossing walk up that road cross passing Ramadan Department Store and then next corner is the ING Bank.
Back at Migros, Cross the road and go right and then take the next road on the left, it's a one way street. walk up on the left to find more Banks.

Well I have viewed my bank statement for the second two weeks in June and find that the cheapest I paid for a TL was 33.58p which equates to £1 = 2.98TL. Not quite 1:3 but only the tiniest smidgeon off. I'm happy with that. Get the right plastic and you get the best rates - better than any bank, official or unofficial change office will offer and heaps better than TQs. Hooray!

I have elaborated so many times over the years, including a few months ago, that I fear I may be getting rather repetitive and possibly boring. However, you've asked and I'll answer.

What you need to have in your wallet is a debit card to use an ATM that has ZERO ATM fee charge AND ZERO exchange loading. It is the second one that most people don't notice. With bad banks they may charge you 1.5% with minimum payment of £1.50 just to use a foreign ATM. This is shown on your bank statement as "Withdrawn XXX TL. @ YYY exchange rate. ATM fee £1.50". OK, you are prepared to pay to access your own money? Fine. [I am not].

The second charge is the one you don't see and is the YYY bit. In the bad bank you are charged an exchange rate of 39.8p per TL. You look at that and you say "Looks OK. It was worse last year". But you may not realize I was using the same ATM on the same day and I was charged 38.6p per TL. Doesn't sound a lot? Well on a £100 worth (300TL) of withdrawal you have been charged £4.50 for the pleasure of accessing your own money. I haven't been charged anything. That is what I mean by the "right" plastic - in relation to debit cards. There are also "right" credit cards.

But I am going out into the sun-soaked garden now and will write more later.

I can see that some of the banks may offer a slightly better rate than the various shops in Calis - but surely life is too short for queueing in a bank in Turkey?

For every 100GBP a 0.01 change either way. up or down, makes a 1 tl difference

Does it really matter folks   :)

Colwyn - a meant the difference between say 2.90 to 2.91.

I confess to not having noticed the difference between Fethiye and Calis rates.
