Title: All in a day's work
Post by: Toky on March 06, 2013, 23:55:03 PM
For the last 3 weeks, we've had the most lovely cold, sunny, calm winter's weather. In my travels throughout Argyll & Bute, I've manages to capture some nice shots on my iphone. I adore all the driving around and getting paid for it too. They are taken at Loch Fyne, Lock Eck, Holy Loch

Nice pictures. We should try and guess what your job is, I thought maybe sales but there's no one to sell to up there. Any other guesses?

Emekliyim, When you have been on the Forum longer you will know that I love to shop, so having someone do it for me is the last thing I would want, it would take all the fun out of it...
However, someone is close to what Toky does.

Oh this really is giving me a larff!!! Amanda you forgot the pi55 in front of artist LOL. Scunner--too fast for your own good ha ha.
Now snow plough driver would really appeal to me as could spend more time on the piste!
MB06, I could fit that bill as I'm always being told I'm full of hot air. I'd make a good schools inspector or teacher, I'd give the kids more days off but maybe a janny would be more my style. Lotty-----partly warm   ;) despite what Stan thinks  : :). Luuuurv the thought of being Jacquie's personal shopper as it wouldn't be my own money I would be spending. Just think......sampling all those Louboutins and Jimmy Choos, parading about with a Prada/ Hermes/Vuitton/Chanel bag slung over my arm instead of a tesco carrier bag!
All will be reaveled by 10pm tonight unless guessed before that. Its not a very exciting job I must saythough, so dont all groan.

So very close Heather   :)

Right, for 42 years I've worked as a hairdresser. For the last 20 of them, I combined 2 careers . I went into Socail Care and worked in Childrens homes and Residential schools with troublesome/troubled young people. I continued my hairdressing in the evenings and at weekends. I got enticed back into a salon in 1998 and decided to do both jobs, part time each.  7 years ago I gave up residential work and jumped ship to be on the side of the young people by becoming a trained advocay worker for them. I ensure that their rights are upheld at Children's Hearings Reviews, Court etc. This took up 3 days of my week with the other 2 spent in a salon in my local area.
I did however decided to eventually give up the salon for good last September and took on full time advocacy work, still  doing some clients hair at their home or mine, evening and weekends. The advocacy job has lots of unsociable hours and I was hardly seeing my darling hubby. As have a very busy lifestyle, I took the decision to go part time starting 2nd week in February this year. So I've just had 4 weeks of having some time to myself after all these years. If I'm honest, I'm finding it hard to fill my couple of days off.  In the long term I know it's the right thing to do, but when the snow melts and I cant get up skiing, I don't know what I'll do!!!! Coffee, cake and wine are an option  ;)
So there you have it folks,  - my career history! Told you it was nothing special.   :)

On the contrary Toky it is a very special thing you are doing.
It cannot be easy working with troubled young folk. I would reckon at times it is a thankless task.
However if you can get through to some of them it is a job well done.
It is hard to believe what some kids have gone through.  It makes you appreciate what you had yourself.
I worked in a RSPCC home as a teenager and was horrified at some of the things that I saw.
Now I am at the other end of the age range.. personally and work.

Yes! I felt sure it would be helpful to others in some way. I was swaying towards you making people look good (wigs, illness etc). You sound like one of life's truly good people and always on the go. Try to enjoy your bit of free time now, you're obviously still getting around to those beautiful places.
